Just updated to JRemote v3.30 on latest IPad OS.

As soon as a video is clicked on to play, JRemote exits/crashes.

small update:

playing to the local device exits to the OS.    playing to another zone seems to work

i am on iPad OS 13.1.3.   notice there is a 13.2.3 which i will upgrade to and give it a go tonight

Edit:  13.2.3 did not solve it.   however the settings icon is now visible again whereas it was not before.    i have also removed and reinstalled the app to no avail.

I am experiencing the same problem. I have reviewed all settings in the app as well as in MC26. I cannot see that this is an user originated problem. It must be an issue with the JRemote 3.30.

Is someone involved in the development of the app reading this ?

Right.  JRemote 3.29 does not have this specific problem on latest iOS; however video playback to the device in JRemte <3.30 results in freeze after a few mins of playback.  In either case, JRemote for video playback is largely broken on iOS of any version and any version of JRemote.

I've been using Panel as a work around for now in hopes this will be addressed in the future

Hello,

I am having a similar issue. I have JRemote for my newly purchased Apple IPAD Air. I can stream to my laptop, home theater, and my son's bedroom with no problem. However, if I select "This Device" I get an error message that states there was a problem playing the selected audio file. Anyone found a solution?

I have extensively tested this problem.
It is definitely a JRemote issue - why?

I can browse to the same target file on the same server from the same (iOS) client device outside of JRemote and open the target file and it plays flawlessly on all the iOS devices. Ultimately the video (H264 AAC) is decoding in hardware on the iPad, no matter how the item is selected. The same file plays flawlessly on other hardware decoders (two other TV devices, different brands) and an Amazon Fire TV device all from the single DNLA player configured in MC.

Hopefully this will help a repro for whoever may invest some cycles to repair this issue.

Is there anything we can do (testing, server logs, config) to help troubleshoot this?  Multiple iOS releases now haven't had any impact on it; while it's conceivable that Apple broke something, it's unlikely they are going to provide a fix to it.  Given other companies support playback of video from their respective servers to their clients on latest iOS devices, it's gotta be something that can be addressed in JRemote.

Same issue for me too on 3.3 and all updated IOS (I have had this issue for a while now)

I am also having major issues with JRemote freezing and then I lose all connectivity to the server.  Main fix is to reboot the iphone / ipad but this doesn't always work and that is a painful process.

I understand this could be a Windows 10 issue also but I have pretty much exhausted all of my options there.  I never used to have these issues prior with JRemote/have been a user for years now.

I am currently searching the forum for possible fixes.

Any ideas to help fix?

Ditto what others have noted here. Since the issue is easily reproduceable on multiple devices and iOS versions it's puzzling as to why it has been without a fix for a month. Even weirder it even got past the regression or AT tests..
Music and photos seems to work.

I would like to share our family's media (mostly home videos and photos) with overseas grandparents without resorting to giving Apple more of our $$ and personal files..

Any hint of this is an acknowledged bug would be nice (regardless of ETA for fixing it)

I have the same problem.

And what is worrying me is that there is absolutely no Admin to read what we are saying here. I am really concerned about these frequent updates on iOS apps (iOS itself too) that are doing only damage. JRemote is not alone, most of the apps are doing updates that only damage functionality lately... in the name of security.

I  have had i the same problem for weeks. Click on a video to play on my iPad and Remote crashes. Any there any admins reading this and responding?

video playback in prior versions was broken as well; it would play for a few mins and then freeze up.  IIRC, restarting playback or FF/RW sometimes caused playback to resume.  in this case, it immediately crashes the app.  But ultimately we're not really worse off - this one has been a bugger for a while now.

give panel a try in the meantime.  it does work.
