Help is on the Way
« on: April 29, 2003, 04:11:17 pm »

If Lise's cigarettes and wine don't run out on her tonight, we'll have a new help file for tomorrow's build.  We've seen a lot of it and it's great stuff -- Lise has no other mode.

She's done it with her left hand while writing another big document with her right hand for her main squeeze's software.  And she went to the National Association of Broadcaster's convention in Las Vegas (where she gambled away her dowry).  Her ville, Toronto, was quarantined.  Nothing stopped her.  Tonight late or tomorrow early, she will deliver.

Too bad Ed Boudreaux isn't here to cheer her on.  We hear he was run over by a float of Greyhounds dressed as Dixie Chicks at Mardi Gras this year.  He's in a bayou health spa now, building his strength for next year's event.

Well, Lise, mademoiselle, merci bien pour tous tes ouevres.   Nous sommes tres raconaissants.

Wow. My hat's off to Lise.

Build 164, and already it's one of the best help files i've used. The directions are clear and easy to follow. The explanations are clear. She manages to convey all the power and possibilities of MC without being long winded and wordy. At times it is informal and narrative; "Have you ever had to run for the volume control when a very loud song starts playing? "

Great work  ..n

Help File Bug:  If the Windows Toolbar is located at the top of screen, the help file opens too close to the top of screen.  The title bar is hidden behind the toolbar so the window can not be moved with the cursor.

It's in 164, but it isn't completely hooked up.  You have to access it via F1 or through Help on the Menu bar.

Merci bien a tous pour les beaux compliments!

I love doing this stuff.  Of course, I wish Jim and Jonathan (my "main squeeze") would get together and release, oh, I don't know, perhaps even just a month apart instead of in the same WEEK... ;)

naven_r_johnson.  Wow.  It's wonderful to hear that you find it helpful.  Thank you.  But credit goes to the J River crew, who answer a gazillion questions, just when they are busy trying to release.  And MC users are fantastic at helping me figure stuff out here on interact.

You can imagine the kind of confusing state I get in near release.  As a MC user and fan, I want the J River crew to make MC9 its best, and if that means adding features or making changes at the last minute, then great.  As the helpfileputtogetherer:  "Aaarrgghhhh!"

CMagic--any chance you could give me an honorary doctorate instead of the medal?  I sure would appreciate not having to get back to writing my dissertation  ;)

I was wondering about that.

Haven't you been working on that for like... forever? I seem to remember you were working on it when I first got here. I can't remember when that was exactly, but it MJ 7.0 was either released, or near release. I can't remember.

NoCodeUK

Absolutely. That would be extremely helpful to me.   I'll start a new thread for errors & omissions.

Doof:  yeah... well, given the choice between answering unanswerable philosophical questions and noodling with my MC database, well, you get the picture...
