Artist album / compilation
« on: February 11, 2020, 12:13:38 pm »

Since 2014, when I first bought JRiver and kept on buying every year ever since, I keep on struggling with the compilation cd ripping.
I'm looking for an easy solution to find the artist of a compilation album under "artist" (left screen) and not under 'artist album'. I want the cd to appear as one cover in the view and not with one cover per track. So I've changed the tag to artist name : an extra cover is generated (which I don't want). When I put in the artist album field "various" I cannot find the artist name in the left category under 'artist'. Can somebody tell me how I can easily get the compilation split with different artists but appear as one cover in the display view. Thanks

This is pretty easy to fix.  Check out this wiki article which should help you:

Thanks Brian.
However JRiver places each artist in its folder. I've changed the folder rules as follows :
folder rule : album
filename rule: track - artist - title

As I wanted to have the album placed together and not split.

No reply on my request regarding radio stations logo  when library is restored ? It seems to me a simple thing but no importance for MC ?

I'm confused.  First you were talking about how MC shows Albums in the GUI interface.  Now you're asking about ripping CDs I think?

Did the wiki article help you get your compilation albums grouped together in MC's GUI so they appear as single albums?

I know nothing about radio station logos.

Sorry if it is confusing. I was just informing that my cd ripping logic (all tracks + artists in one file) did not help in getting things easy with JRiver.

What the logos with radio stations presets is concerned in restoring a library, nobody replied. So maybe it's not issue or the question was too stupid.

The really short version of how to group compilation albums together:

* Set all tracks to use the exact same value for [Album Artist] .  It's that simple.

For compilations that have an obvious answer (like a DJ album), you can use the name of the DJ or main artist, etc.  For really varied stuff (like Best of the 80s or something), you can choose what to use.  You might use "Various Artists" which will sort under V.  Or you can use "(Multiple Artists)" which will sort before everything else because of the parenthesis "(".

I hope that helps you out.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot Brian !

The 'really short version' was the quick fix I needed to get things sorted out.

Best regards
