Streaming Media - Think I might have something...

asf streaming is broke again...  http://62.25.96.7:80/rrs/

Was working, now it's not. last night it was buffering up to 78% then crashing (MC just vanished). Installed .162 and it made me d'load the windows media plugin before it would attempt to play the stream now it gives me the following error....

"Playback Engine: Media Jukebox is unable to aquire a liscence for this file"

Which it throws the obligatory 3 times followed by the check the file exists hint from MC.

Other points worth noting....
WMP correctly plays the stream and also correctly displays the radio station's tagline. MC used to do this too, whereas now, instead of detecting and informing that the stream is asf and displaying the tagline, it merely announces (in the player control panel) that we have a "WMA stream" and in the library, and playing now lists the filetype is shown as WMA.

Thinking back to where the conflict may have come from and I've currently got DivX 3.11, DivX 4 an XviD codec and powerDVD in the frame. Don't remember installing anything else yesterday.

tentatively blaming the latest release now. Why?

Because on a clean xp install v.160 was working fine.
Upped it to v.162 and it also needed to d'load "Windows Media v9" in order to play the stream. (MC crashes after the install) then when trying to play the stream, the old aquire liscence error. Tried rolling back to .160, same error again.

Shame :(

Also, there's this from Doc Watson....

My Discovery? - It's ASIO.

Well, it is on my system anyways. Opening this asf stream http://62.25.96.7/rrs/ with ASIO selected in playback options causes MC to crash, leaving me with this... http://foc.no-ip.com/files/mccrash.mp3 (132kb) not pleasant, yes, only the left channel, no way to stop it except to reboot. Happens every time.
Changed output mode to directsound and now we have....

Listening to: 'Windows Media Stream' on Media Center 9.0

I tried changing the buffer settings but it made no difference. My choices were as follows....
Output mode - ASIO
Output format - 32 bit bitdepth
                         Source No. of channels
                         48,000 Hz sample rate.
I only changed output mode to stop it from crashing.
points of note...
Where it says 'Windows Media Stream' it should say 'Scotlands best variety of music and talk' and the stream is an .asf stream but MC reports it as a .wma stream.
