Add zone - No possibilty to associate with a DLNA Server
« on: May 02, 2020, 05:37:33 am »

If I add a zone and right clicking with the mouse on the zone there is no menu entry "associate with a DLNA server." What do I wrong or misunderstood?

You can only do that for Dynamic Zones that are DLNA devices (Renderer). I've never gotten the "Add Dynamic Zone" via a URL function to work, if it even does. So if you added a Zone, it isn't a DLNA Zone, so you can't associate a DLNA Server with it.

Thank's RoderickGI. I also did not got the "Add Dynamic Zone" via a URL function to work.

That means per dynamic zone you have one DLNA device. Is that correct?

The questions is then how to have two DSP settings for one dynamic zone?

Or is that not possible?

If not that would mean you can not have two DSP settings for headphone and speakers separately for one DLNA endpoint device.

I don't have any equipment that would allow me to test it, but I know that some equipment will present multiple DLNA Renderers based on the output they have selected.

That is, in your case, if you selected Headphones on your device, MC would see one DLNA Renderer, and if you selected Speakers, MC would see another DLNA Renderer. That would allow you to associate a different DLNA Server to each DLNA Renderer, and hence, have different DSP for each.

Obviously, one Zone is one DLNA Renderer (Dynamic Zone) which can only have one DLNA Server associated with it.

If your device only advertises one DLNA Renderer regardless of output, then I don't think you can do what you want. Maybe the device has a setting to define how it presents?

The only other option I can think of would be to use hotkeys or similar to switch DLNA Server association with a DLNA Renderer. I haven't looked to see if there is a MCC or MCWS command for that. If not, maybe a request, but the switching would be very environment specific so may not be possible, or easy.

Devialet 220 Pro appears only as one DLNA endpoint device (renderer) in MC independent on the output chosen (speaker or headphone). I thought it should be possible to achieve this -

Bob wrote in the top entry in the media network category:
Quote
You can create multiple DLNA servers and each will be able to have it's own DSP Studio settings.
This means if you associate a zone with a particular server (right-click the zone and do "associate with DLNA server") you can have separate DSP effects for each zone or groups of zones.

So I missunderstood it?

The other way to achieve this, is the use of Devialet AIR with two local zone's on the server with in-memory playback. Disadvantage of this solution is that I must use Wifi because AIR over Ethernet is in my network not stable and I must convert DSD to pcm in MC instead of using the D220 Pro cababilities for DSD playback. AIR with Wifi is limited to 24bit/192kHz. UPnP playback on the Devialet using WIfi as transport has not the DSD restrictions. That's why I would prefer UPnP but "That's Life"  :)

What Bob said, which is basically what I said, it that you can have different DSP for different Zones. This is true.

What you are looking for is multiple DSP for the one Zone. Other than changing the DLNA Server Association with the Dynamic Zone that appears when a DLNA Renderer is present whenever you change between Speakers and Headphones, I don't think you can do that.

So, if you want to use DLNA/UPnP, just switched the DLNA Server association when you switch outputs on the Devialet 220 Pro.

You will probably have to do that in the MC Standard View interface. But there may be an MCC or MCWS command to do that. Or maybe you could ask for one to be created. If so you might be able to do the switch via a remote or App. But the fact that a DLNA Renderer is a Dynamic Zone, and not a fixed Zone, may make that difficult.

Yes tried this a couple of years ago when I wanted the exact same functionality, and manual association of a second server was the only way I found to do it.
