Auto-import works very slowly
« on: May 14, 2020, 06:34:19 am »

Hi everyone. I have a configured auto-import to watch a music folder on an external usb drive for changes. The configuration appears to be correct, because when I add files to this folder, or change tags, this is reflected by MC in the library.
The problem is that this can take a very long time. I would like to be able to drag a new album to my watched folder and start editing it in MC, instead of having to wait for it to appear in the library.
My question: is this normal behaviour in MC or should changes in the watched folder immediately become visible in the library? BTW, the usb drive is directly connected to the notebook running MC, so the delay can't be caused by network or NAS issues. I'm running v26.0.73 on Windows 10. Any ideas?

Auto-Import of New Tracks, especially if you are using the MC default settings, is not a single action/task but a set of actions that, depending on your settings can involve one or more of the following tasks :-

The actual importing of those tracks into the library;
Analysing each track to determine the Ideal Playback Volume;
Building the Waveform for that track;
Checking to see if the track is an HDCD recording;
Searching for the Artwork for that track;
Searching for the Lyrics for that track

Some of which can take time, especially the last 2.
