DirectX support will be in build 157

We're adding support for video playback using DirectX filters.  Tonight's build, 9.0.157, will be out in about an hour and will be the first with this feature.  

Video playback may be improved in many cases.  It also may create new problems.  Please let us know what you find.

Several people have asked to be able to build their own "graphs" using DirectShow filters, but I've forgotten why. If you're interested in this, please provide some details.

It may not happen before we release 9.0, but it may be something we can do shortly after that.

What about OpenGL support? :) (that would be killer for 3D visualizations)

I'd like to integrate MC into AutoCAD somehow in some unknown fashion for reasons again unknown.

DirectX should improve MC's visualization speed and quality...I assume. I thought you were done adding features...but who am I to complain?

I would like to be able to create my own direct show graphs for DVD playback as I cannot seem to get MC to play DVDs succesfully...

I posted this in the bug thread but I guess here is the proper place so...if you are playing a video in MC (in this case an avi) and you navigate away from MC and then back you get articles from the other window down the right hand side of the video

Its Really A Standard, and i would think if your going to do video it should be supported one way or another.

My understanding of Direct is that DirectShow and DirectSound are part of what Microsoft now calls DirectMedia, formerly DirectX.

It's all one.  We have it all (we think).

Came to report this too. My avi is not in the library, it's a clip from MC's TV recording feature :)
The aspect ratio is working nicely.
Double clicking the file from windows explorer causes MC to open with remains of windows explorer caught on the right hand side (playing now view, "restored" state) artefacts are in the unused area to the right of the video.
Resizing MC while the file is playing causes half the control bars to be permanantly painted in the viewing area.
Eventually, MC crashes before reaching the end of ther file. Not sure if this is to do with the capture file not being saved correctly? (No summary info available in the files properties, final file always about 5 megs smaller than the temp capture file, which can be summarised)

Aspect ratio is working perfectly. You superstars.
When changing between Mega-Me, Full Screen and Hairstyle, the backgrounds of letterboxed video is sometimes not cleared properly.
There is some slight tearing of the video when you bring up the right click menu. The video can also resize slightly when the bars disappear, even if resize is turned off.
Would it be possible to access the properties windows of the DirectShow filters you are using. Currently, you can only do this with wmplayer2, but it allows you to set things like DiVX quality, contrast, saturation, etc.

Nice work though, guys. Keep it coming.

Jim, I know we had an exchange about this over on avsforum, but I'm not sure that we're speaking the same language.... a few of us want to know if we will be able to insert custom DirectShow audio filters into the graph for the purposes of listening to music (you know, playing APE and MP3 files).  Is that on the drawing board (I hope)?

It's definitely on the drawing board. I think you're talking about the "audio-only" playback engine in MC which allows DSP plugins to be added in "DSP studio". At some point in the future, we will have a DSP plugin that will support inserting DirectShow audio transform filters into the MC audio path. Then you will be able to manipulate the sound when playing Ape, Ogg, Mp3 or whatever audio formats using DirectShow filters.

There's a bit of confusion, because we made a recent change where we dropped using Windows Media Player for playing video (and some audio) files (avi, wmv, divx, aiff, etc.) and started handling the DirectShow filter graph ourselves. This will allow us in the future to open up that filter graph for user customization. However, this is separate from the audio path described in the above paragraph.

Hope that's not even more confusing!!

Just to add another vote to this, I am very, very interested in this capability.
