Mac Features vs. Windows
« on: August 17, 2020, 12:43:37 am »

I ordered the MC25 for Mac last year and have been very happy with the music capabilities. However I had assumed the Mac version would have feature parity with the Windows version (I have no windows capability at this time) and was sorely disappointed to find that Blu-ray features on the windows version are not available on the Mac version. I had also been looking forward to virtual audio driver functionality enabling me to use my JRiver dsp settings with other apps like I read customers are able to do with the Windows version but again this feature is lacking on the Mac version. Is there any plan to port these 2 features to the Mac version? I'll probably hold out till then as the music playing and library capabilities in MC25 are good enough for me at this time.

The DVD/Blu-ray features on Windows depends on the Windows OS' system components, especially for things like mounting and reading ISO images. These components don't exist on Mac or Linux so they'd have to be developed from scratch, which isn't a small project by any means. I think it's on their list, but it's probably pretty low priority because of the complexity involved in supporting it.

In the meantime, ripping discs with MakeMKV is the recommended course of action for Mac and Linux.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Windows has MadVR ... since it’s DirectShow component ... it’s Windows only ... MadVR has superb upscaling capabilities ... can play Blu-ray 3D MVC rips .. and also has superb HDR tone mapping

MadVR does require powerful GPU ... for 4K playback -NV 1060 as minimum ... more GPU power you throw at it - better quality picture it will give ... though there is point of diminishing return when increase in quality might not worth extra $ for GPU
