JRiver MediaCenter is not getting CD Info
« on: November 22, 2020, 08:17:00 am »

I am currently evaluating JRiver MediaCenter 27 on a Windows 10 PC.

I am able to successfully rip many CDs and MC is successfully obtaining album and track details. However in maybe 10% of the cases MC is not successful in loading the album and track details and I have to supply this information manually. The CDs in question are legitimate commercial CDs.

I have noticed that in these cases (the 10%), that the Windows Media Player is able to display all of the album and track details without any problem. I don't understand why Windows Media Player is successful and MC is not? Does the album and track information actually reside on my CD and MC is unable to read it, or does the Windows Media Player get this info from another online CD database other than YADB? Is there any way of getting better results?

The YADB Database is Unique to MC, WMP is probably getting it's info from MusicMatch

When MC fails to find the info on YADB tell it to get the info from the "CDText" file if that is present on the disc it will save you a lot of typing but you are probably going to supply the cover-art.

This was a very fast response to my query. Impressive and thanks.

I checked one of my CDs (in the 10%) in VLC and I can see an abbreviated Album Title but no track information. So I guess that the CD does not have much in the way of CDText and that Windows Media Player is getting the CD album and tract information from MusicMatch.

Is there a way that I can use a third party program to get the same information as Windows Media Player and have that written to CDPlayer.ini so that it is useable by JRiver MediaCenter? This beats entering in the information manually.

tedh - The simplest answer to the problem is to use WMP to rip the CD's to a folder MC knows about.

P.S. The info WMP gets is based on the GraceNote Db and since they charge company's to use it the chances of finding free software to get the same info are somewhere between slim and none

Thank you very much for that reply.

I have tried that and it worked perfectly.

I don't suppose that doing this updates the YADB database?

tedh - once the ripped CD is in MC you can submit it to YADB
