Still having a lot of crashes [Solved]
« on: December 21, 2020, 01:34:27 pm »

Hi All - I wrote about this in one of the release threads, and a few weeks on I'm still getting a lot of hangs and crashes when tagging or moving larger lists of songs from one playlist to another.

Attached Below is a link to a log following a long hang (no crash this time), any ideas?

Thanks,
Peter

Anything else hogging memory?

I run Roon on the same server and sometimes shut it down if MC  misbehaves

Roon hogs 3-4 gb of Ram

I don't think so?  I don't do much on this machine, it's mostly just for JRiver and a web browser.  Currently I am showing 32% of 16GB being used, but I'll keep an eye on it next time I have a hang or a crash.

I do have some of my library stored on a NAS that I access by SMB, but the vast majority of media files are local.

Happy to hear of any other things to take a look at, thanks in advance.

Just had another crash, I wasn't actively using MC.  Maybe there's an auto import problem?

Here's a crash log.

Here's a crash log.

Or a hardware problem. Check your power supply.

Thanks - Check it how?  Like with a multimeter?

Last crash was on battery FWIW.

Did you configure Windows Defender?  There's a thread on this board.

No luck, I've allowed the entire list of exceptions in Windows Defender, and I'm still getting freezes and crashes often.  There is very little else running on my PC, and it's a recent clean install of Windows (20h2).  Just this morning I've once again removed and re-installed MC and restored from a backup.  I'm not sure what to try next, any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I'm seeing some really slow responses in my log... can anyone help with this?

Is this a Synology with CloudSync service enabled to OneDrive?

If you have CloudSync to Onedrive enabled on this folder, then you probably should not be importing that folder into MC.
When MC changes any tag on the file (thus modifying the file), the Synology will detect the change and will want to re-upload the entire file, which may hang MC until that operation is complete or fails. This may explain the slow operations, lockups, and MC crashes.

You can set MC to save tags on separate "sidecar.xml" files, which would avoid this problem - the media files themselves would remain untouched. You may not want this however, if you need the Tags to be displayed on the LCD of a DLNA player.

Great tip - I'll give it a try.

And yes, that's exactly what it is, as a work-around to backing stuff up to the cloud.  If this is the root of my troubles then I can rearrange my strategy, or at least tell my DS to not sync to onedrive until after midnight or something like that.

Cheers!

I just had to reinstall drivers on my wife’s PC , not mine . She lost all Audio

They both have intel integrated stuff but different mother boards. The most recent Win 10 update would seem to be the culprit.

May be worth checking drivers on any cards you have ?

Update - this was absolutely my problem, I've had a few hours to play around with things and haven't had one unreasonable performance concern.  Thanks all for your patience with another user with another unique setup.
