iPod 'Eject Device' problems
« on: April 08, 2003, 08:16:48 pm »

It disconnects my iPod just fine. Unfortunately it also disconnects my LaCie firewire drive. They are in different ports and not daisy-chained.

This doesn't happen using the Apple utility and I'm pretty sure it didn't happen in earlier MC builds.

The firewire is built in to my motherboard and works without problems in all other cases. I get a nice average of 8.5 MB/S transfer with MC.

It's on XP, service pack 1

I'm wondering if maybe they really are on the same port internally. There's actually 3 external sockets, (two at the back and one at the front). I'm betting that the front one is actually daisy-chained internally to one of the rear ones.

The motherboard is a Shuttle SV51F.

It's no big deal really as the drive actually comes back online without re-plugging. I just have to select it in explorer. It fails the first time, and then re-initializes it.

I'll try switching the ports and see what happens.

paulj,

Please let me know. I think your hunch may be right. The eject works fine for me on multiple XP machines.

I switched the port of the LaCie and everything's fine. I guess the front one was sharing one of the ports after all.

Sorry for the false alarm.   :-[
