MC 27.0.59 for Pi has sample rate coversion issue
« on: January 31, 2021, 11:15:08 am »

Hi, when I use 27.0.58 version, there wasn't this bug. (probably, if I recall correctly) => this happens older versions as well.
I made new upgrade to 27.0.59, sample rate conversion does not work for:
   WAV file only, through DLNA.

I have no chances to test on local playback, my Raspberry Pi 4B (8GB, Rasbian Buster lastest version) has no connection whatsoever but only network. So my problem I only can test through DLNA network, playback through DLNA renderer.

This is my setup and it is no problem at all with both 27.0.58 Linux version and 27.0.57 Windows version.

Tools -
  option -
     media network -
add or configure DLNA server -
             Audio -
mode:  Set to "specified output format only when necessary"
                Format: PCM 24bit
            Advanced -
                DSP studio:
                    Output format: checked
                    Output encoding: none
Sample rate: Set all for up / down to 384KHz
                Advanced -
audio format to convert: Uncheck .dff, .dsf, sacd (these 3 type I don't want to do sample rate conversion)

.flac and .ape can convert from 44.1khz to 384khz, under this setup (I can see indicator on my DAC),
But .wav file isn't. It only shows 44.1Khz. It was converted 384khz when I use 27.0.58. => It was not. My mistake. MC26 also it's not working.

I have no chance to check all other formats. I only have ape, mp3, flac, wav, sacd iso, dsf, dff format files. All other formats follow my DSP rule but only wav file does not. Please check this out.

Re: MC 27.0.59 for Pi has sample rate coversion issue - Add solution

Above problems still there, and today I install Windows version MC27 and I found it has same problem.
Only WAV file is not sample rate converted.
Now, I don't know whether it is bug or designed for to do like this.
BTW I found solution today, now everything except .dff, .dsf. sacd can sample rate converted as desired.
What I've change is:

Tools -
   Option -
       Media Network -
Add or configure DLNA servers -
                 Audio -
Mode: "Specified output format" instead of "Specified output format only when necessary"
                     Format : PCM 24bit
            Advanced -
                DSP studio:
                    Output format: checked
                    Output encoding: none
Sample rate: Set all for up / down to 384KHz
                Advanced -
audio format to convert: This option is disabled, because I select "Specified output format"
           Advanced -
Check "Bitstream DSD (requires DoPE compliant renderer)"

Under this setup, all format files convert sample rate as I set.
But DSD files (.dsf, .dff, sacd) still play DSD stream because I set "Bitstream DSD"

I think it is not correct setting, my aforementioned set is more understandable, because this setting is clearly said "All format must change to PCM", so I thought it will convert DSD to PCM which I must avoid. If I can select which format I want to convert, then I can uncheck DSD files so it will show much clear meaning - "All format change to PCM and convert sample rate as DSP settings but exclude file formats which I unchecked it"

Anyway, everything is ok now, WAV file also up-sampled and play, dsd files goes untouched DoPE stream.
But still, I think it is bug.
WAV file also must be converted as DSP setting, under set options which I post before.

I went all the way back to 27.0.47 on windows and the same thing happens for me.
I don't think this is new.
Can you verify that it used to work with the same settings??

I see you just tested this.
Sounds like a bug to me too. It's probably been there since the format choosing option was added.
Will take a look...

Yes indeed. It is not working with older version, too. My mistake.
This *bug* is there MC26 Windows, if I change setting like what I've first posted on MC26, it behave same as latest version of Linux/Window, probably Mac version as well...
So it is probably *unknown* hide bug...? Or not bug at all...?  :o

The original intention was to not convert formats that are the same as the destination format which prevents DSP from being applied in that case.
The new behavior will be to convert to the destination format whether or not the source format is the same.
