GroupCount Help - Possible Bug in Sorting [SOLVED]
« on: March 30, 2021, 10:03:18 am »

Hi, I've just discovered GroupCount, I've been using global variables to do the counting before. I have a couple of questions

Is using GroupCount faster than using global variables? If not I'll just stick with global variables.

And also I can't seem to sort the pane by the GroupCount expression itself.

For example

Expression to group by:  [Genre]
Expression to display:  (GroupCount()) [Genre]
Settings - Sorting:  Display Expression

I'd expect this to sort the pane by groupcount itself. But it doesn't work. Upon saving the view and then reopening it. It turns up blank and Expression to group by & expression to display is empty even though I saved it initially with fields and expressions.

Is this a bug in the Sorting settings? Can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks

I just tried this view and all the genres are correctly sorted by the group count in front of them.

So they are sorted numerically rather than alphabetically? I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

The view doesn't save properly on my end, the expressions disappear upon saving, when I change the sorting settings to Display expression

I haven't updated in a while. I'll update & try again. Thanks Matt
