We're working on a set of video streaming improvements for MCWS and JRemote2 for Android. They will arrive later this month.
All these changes are designed for cases when streaming video to the remote device, ie. watching videos on your tablet or phone, or through ChromeCast on another device, controlled by JRemote2!
We're currently focusing on JRemote2 for Android, other remotes should get updates in the future.
Stream Selection
MCWS and JRemote2 will allow you to select the active audio and subtitle streams directly from the remote. Until now a remote player had no option to change the stream configuration, and would only play the streams Media Center provided.
To do this, we've extended JRiver's Media Center Web Service (MCWS) to allow JRemote2 (and other remotes in the future) to select the streams during playback, similar to how the experience would be in desktop Media Center playback!
Bookmarking support
JRemote2 will get support to both use and set playback bookmarks, allowing a mostly seamless transition between devices. Stop playback on one device, and resume playback on another using the bookmark.
Note: Authentication is required for bookmarks to be set in the Media Center database.
Chapter display
Media Center will expose chapter information for remotes to display, so that we can offer navigation by chapters in JRemote2, for a faster way to navigate in movies, and finding the scene you wanted to resume from!

All these changes are scheduled to arrive in January. First in Media Center in form of the required web service changes, followed by a JRemote2 update towards the end of the month making use of these functions and exposing it to you, the users!
