Submitting existing CD's to YADB!
« on: March 20, 2003, 02:56:22 pm »

J River,

Why is it not possible to submit CD's to YADB that are already existing in our libraries? It would make re-ripping of those CD's much easier!

Obviously we can do only one of the following:
1) Submit CD info  to YaDB of a newly inserted cd
2) Submit track info to YADB

What is the logic behind this?

It's a technical problem - the library does not include the table of contents of the CD.

This is way out of my league, so please bear with me.

Quote
The Red Book (the standard for all audio CD's) describes the following items to be stored in the TOC, as the table of contents is also referred to.
+  Information of each track, consisting of the following items:
  - Start time. This refers to index 1 and therefor skipping the
pause of the track when present. The start time is given in
min:seconds:frames, where minutes can run from 00-99, seconds from
00-59 and frames from 00-74.
 - Track attributes (4 bits)
    bit 1  two channel (0) / four channel (1)
    bit 2  audio (0) / non-audio=data (1)
    bit 3  copy prohibitted (0) / permitted (1)
    bit 4  pre-emphasis off (0) / on (1)
+  The track number of the first track (01-99)
+  The track number of the last track (01-99)
+  Information on the lead-out. This is the area on the disc after the
last track. Same as for the other tracks (time, attributes)

I think all we are asking for is if we select 18 songs, (dummy up a table of contents).  What am I missing?

If you selected the 12 Songs that have been converted to MP3 how would you get this info?

I am still confused (but that's normal).

If I create a cd using MC, then rip it, it seems to work fine,  so who created the TOC when the cd is written?

How can I look at a TOC?

dobon,

with a right click on the CD in the tree CD, DVD & Handhelds you choose 'Submit to CD database'.

Sure, it always used to be that simple, and it still is on my old machine where I run MJ v8 for CDDB access, but the 'submit to DB' option is not available on this machine with MC.133 and it haven't been since pre unicode.

Accidental deletion of default option? Is that possible? If so, how can I restore it?
