Repeat song
« on: January 15, 2022, 05:04:54 pm »

MC28 on Windows 10.
REPEAT NOW PLAYING  not working!
REPEAT CURRENT ITEM not working!

It will just advance to the next selection.
What am I missing? Seems like ti would be simple.

What happens if you let it play to the end and advance that way?

The song will play to the end and then it advances to the next song in the playlist.
Turning on "Repeat Playing Now" or "Repeat Current item" it still advances to the next song.

Make sure you're using the latest build.  Can anyone else reproduce this?  Thanks.

Matt I just tried it in 28.0.100 (64-bit) - Swapping to "Repeat Current Item" while a track is playing does what it says on the can  ;D
"Repeat Playing Now" also tests ok for a short playlist.

This is an upgrade from MC27 to the current MC28.
The repeat function did not work for me in MC27 either.
I know this because I tried to loop my pink noise files for tuning and could never get them to repeat.
I am not saying it will not work, just trying to figure out why it is not working for me.
I have shot a video on my phone to show that the repeat is activated but JRiver advances to the next selection.
Can't seem to get it to send in this forum. Are video files possible?

Just to be sure I installed MC28.0.100.
The repeat function still does not work.

What is your playback setup?   Are you playing to a DLNA device?

Playback setup is a PC running Windows 10 Pro 64bit.
Playing to a Asus Essence STXII 7.1 sound card.

No I am not playing to a DLNA device.

Tried multiple times to upload the video but I cannot compress it enough to meet the forum requirement.
Any suggestions, I am all ears!

Could you check the "Store Name" field for those files?  Also, make sure they're "Media Type" of audio?

As a test, you might make another zone and see if you can reproduce it in the new zone.  Maybe something is wrong with that zone?

Thanks.

What file type(s) are you playing and how is  audio set?  WASAPI, ASIO?  Try Direct Sound.

Are you starting playback in MC?  Or from Explorer?

Checked the "store name" for the files. Did not change anything.
I am playing wav and flac files only.
I will investigate the zone idea.

Audio is set WASAPI. Tried Direct Sound. No change.
All playback is in MC

Checked the "store name" for the files.

Was anything there?  Try removing it if there was.

Want to try emailing me a library backup?  Then I could test with all the same settings.  I'm matt at jriver dot com.  Thanks 👍

Matt - could the fact that DSP Direct is lit up in that video be part of the problem?

No, that just means no DSP is running.  I just tried direct on my headphones and it still repeats fine.

Thanks for the backup.

It doesn't repeat because you've set MC to remove the played file from Playing Now.

This is kind of a corner case and I'm not sure we should make any changes?  Just turn that off if you want to repeat a song.

Thanks.

I'm not sure we should make any changes?
Suggestion 1:  In the Options menu, use a drop down menu, then terminate the line with a colon and current value.  As is, the consequences can remain invisible.
For example:
Remove files from Playing Now after they are played: No

Note that is the behavior of the Previous button and Play button just above the Remove files... line, as well as Resume playback... just below it. I think it is a more transparent style, and would make the menus more consistent.

Suggestion 2:  Gray out / uncheck playback options in other menus if they are made ineffective by the choice made here in the Options menu.

Suggestion 3:  Forget 1 & 2.  Remove it entirely from Options and add to mutually exclusive choices in other menus.

Coming next build:
Changed: When picking a continuous mode other than off, the program makes sure it is not removing files from playing now (and errors and changes the setting if it is).
