Display View trouble
« on: January 16, 2022, 09:42:37 am »

Is there a way to disable Display View when playing music? I find that the display either is stuck on the left tree pane and obscures my tag window or, if I detach it, it gets stuck in the middle of the screen, also obscuring my pane view. When I try to hide it by clicking the little - sign on the top right, it doesn't do so. That just removes the border of it.
Many thanks or any help.

Open a new tab.  Click on Playing Now and it will show the list of songs and current song.  Now go back to your other tab and the "display view" you have shown will be gone.  It only shows up when there's no other window or tab showing it.

Thank you Brian, I am ashamed to admit that I don't know how to open a new tab ...
Hans
EDIT: I managed to get new tabs but the display view part persists even if I switch to a new tab. However, if I uncheck "always on top" and then detach the display, it disappears.

Display wants to be somewhere.  If it is not open in a tab somewhere, then it will appear in the side bar down in the same area with "action window".  But, as long as it is open in some tab, somewhere, it will not appear in the side bar.

I'm guessing that you got a new tab open, but you did not click on playing now and your zone that you are playing audio in.  You need to have the display for your currently playing zone "viewable" in a tab somewhere.  What I mean by viewable is just that it's showing when the tab is open.  Then you can switch to another tab, which hides it, but it's still "showing" as far as MC is concerned.  I hope this make sense.

I think I understand what you are saying but in my case Display doesn't disappear when I switch to another tab. It either stays on top (where it is in Player view) or moves to the left pane. I have to detach it to get rid of it.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you're seeing.  As soon as you click on Playing Now and your zone, the playlist and cover art should appear in the main window/tab.  It should disappear from the left navigation area.  Does that happen?  Or do you actually see the cover art both in the main window *and* in the left navigation area?

No, it does disappear from the left but stays on top of the main window when I switch tabs. Also, when it is on the left, I cannot collapse it using the - on the top right. Clicking that only removes the borders. When I detach the display, it sometimes moves to the the center of the screen as a small display. The trouble is that it seems to be random. Sometimes the display disappears when I detach, sometimes it doesn't.

I have very limited experience with detaching the display.  It kinda sounds like your display is always detached.  I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it.  Maybe someone else has an idea of what to do.  I've never seen behavior like you describe in the many years I've been using MC for Mac.

Hopefully someone can help.

Something "unusual" is going on because on my MacBook Air (2020) clicking on the - sign Minimizes the Display Window.

When the Display is Detached the Display Panel in the Tree tells you that it is detached.

Maybe it has something to do with my MacOS settings but I wouldn't have a clue what.

Detachment of Display View isn't working as desired yet. It's a non-trivial problem on Mac in MC.

Thanks Bob, that's good to know. I'll not mess with it.
