TV suggestions
« on: March 21, 2003, 12:44:43 am »

Hi all,
Just installed the TV card (hauppage win tv2000 go) and got it working after searching these lists. you need the latest wdm drivers from their download site and then to delete reg entries to make mc ask about the driver to use. Well it all works now and I am very impressed. A few suggestions though.

1) Is there a way to rename the chanels, I can't remember that chanel 23 is itv for example.

2) When I change the chanel I get a loud click/noise from the speakers. Is it possible to mute the sound, change chanel, un-mute sound to solve this problem. I had the same problem when I changes cable chanels in my old non htpc setup and could not solve it.

3) When I first go into the tv section, loud static for the first 4 seconds or so is heard. This is while th tv is loading/attaching to the driver. Can we mute this also.

Apart from these suggestions I think it works very well, congratulations team... :)

Ross,

Just a query... what country are you in?  Are you in the UK?  And if so what cable service are u using with your tv card?  I was thinking of getting a tv card to connect up to a NTL cable box... can u select all the cable channels from within the PC?

Cheers

No cable ere m8, just the 5 chanels. My old place had cable but I moved. You will not be able to see all the chanels with a decoder box, they only output 2 or three max.

Adam,
Sorry for the quick reply, I have more time now so will expand.
When I had cable (telewest) the set top box would only output the selected chanel, and a few others. i.e you could tune your tely to get eurosport and news 24 but it would not get discovery unless that was the active chanel on the set top box. eurosport was always available so they must have been outputting it on a seperate chanel from the station itself. It was a shame they dont send all the stations on different chanels so the tv card / telly can be tuned to all of them, elimination the need for the set top box to change the station.

Hope this helps, sorry for the bad news...

Just click the Options button below the Channels list (alternatively choose Options from Tools menu and select "TV Tuner Settings") and you will find a "Modify" button on the dialog window.

I have made a lot of effort in this. Some TV cards are hard to silent  :-/. First thing however, is to make sure you have configured the program to use the correct sound channel (for example Line-In).

Hi Yaobing,
Thanks for the reply, I should have found the  modify button :(  But got it now.
I have checked the devices in use and they are

Mixer device - SB Live! Wave Device
Audio Line - Line In

Also if I start recording it tells me that I cant watch the picture - continue anyway. But I can hear the sound. Don't know if this is how it should work or not. When I watch the recorded video it has some lines running across the screen as it plays.

Thanks for your help...

UPDATE:
Sorry Yaobing I should have read your quick reference guide. I now know why I can record and watch at the same time. Due to the high res 640 recording, works at 320. Looks like I got a cheap ass card :(

Your s/w is working better than the wintv 2000 app. Fair play to you :)
