Media Center 9.0.125 beta
« on: March 10, 2003, 12:57:22 pm »

This is the first build after MAJOR changes -- expect many problems and crashes.

Please wait a few builds if problems could upset you.

If you are sure you want to continue, 9.0.125 is available here: (we warned you)

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90125.exe

Changes

1. Fixed: When input audio format changed but output format didn't, MC didn't behave well. (would play chipmunk sounds)
2. Fixed: The auto CD rip mode would not always advance to the next CD.
3. Fixed: After user cancelled a CD burn operation, they weren't asked to choose audio or data CD the next time they went to burn.
4. Changed: Reworked thumbnailing system so low-res thumbnails won't be used when a bigger image is needed. (like in Hairstyle)
5. Changed: Removed non-functional "create missing" thumbnails button in thumbnail options.
6. Changed: Changing thumbnail display size no longer requires thumbnails to be erased / rebuilt.
7. NEW: Thumbnail display options (size, spacing, etc.) easily available from the "list style" toolbar button.
8. Fixed: CD ripping now imports all fields in the list view rather than just the basic ones.
9. Fixed: The wording 'Media Jukebox' was used at end of ripping process.
10. Fixed: When dragging folders to a CD for burning, the "audio or data CD" question was not always asked appropriately.
11. Changed: Wording changed to "Scanning files..." when dragging files to a CD for burning.
12. Fixed: When Options/Advanced button was selected from CD rip dialog, rip dialog would disappear underneath MC.
13. Fixed: CD ripping problems on SCSI drives (Unicode/registry issue).
14. Changed: Tree favorite save format changed to newer, safer format. (old favorites will be lost)
15. Fixed: Internet track lookup from sound recorder was timing out before it got the relevant data.
16. Changed: When doing internet track lookup from sound recorder, album and artist names are filled is as well as track names.
17. Fixed: CD burner now supports the Iomega 16x10x40 USB CDRW drive.
18. Fixed: Doing a data CD burn of open files could result in a corrupt CD.
19. Fixed: CD labeler rotated images wrong on "fold-over" type front covers.
20. Fixed: Tree no longer scrolls horizontally when moving to a tree item.
21. NEW: Rewrote and reorganized menu / toolbar system. (not totally done)

Mpc ripping problems. Mc Doesnt get to the end, of ripping a song using Mpc.
Note: This player sounds superb resampling to 192,000hz. (M-audio Revolution 7.1). Wao. My ears (Not my head) are flying. Good job Matt  ;D

Now when you start it, the window uses a default size and position, instead of remembering where it was put.

'recently imported' is missing.
No it's not, oops.  For some reason mp3's had become unticked on the import dialog after installing this version

Removing songs from the library is faster, but can occasionally hang the pc for 15-30 seconds

In the new toolbar I seem to only have the icons showing that I previously had with no way to add new ones...I have no icon for list style anymore :(  Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong??

MC is not remembering its size/position/window state.  If it is closed maximised when you restart it is not maximized but in the centre of the screen (The famous Netscape 6 bug!!)

It's still a work in progress.  All the old buttons (plus some new ones) will be available in the next build.

BUG:  Importing tagged image files into a new MC library is not working properly. The value of the "Name" tag is replaced by the file name!
Sample: An image file named "My Winter Holdidays.jpg" has a name tag with the following value: <Name>Sunny Day in the Alps</Name>.
After importing the file into a new MC library the name value in the library is "My Winter Holidays" (this is the name of the file!) instead of "Sunny Day in the Alps"!  The name tag value is not imported and cannot be found anywhere in the database! Seems to happen only with image files (jpg)!

Should probably be coded like that: if name tag value not empty get name tag value otherwise filename

I use a working library, where I do all tagging work. Once satisfied I import the files in the production library. I expect to see the same library content!

Matt-

Here some more work for you to progress on.  ;)

File Properties: 'Tools' button does nothing.

Ditto: NCUK's toolbar business.

Forgot to add: The new Icon looks snazzy. Who came up with that?

Listening to: Santana - Sideways - Shaman. BeastMaster stuck it in the stereo. There's hope for her yet.  ;D

No external automation stuff works in this release.  mjextman will start and stop mc but the /Command commands do nothing.   The MC Girder GML doesn't work either.

Bugs:
1. Can't use MC with a Portable Drive (ie, CF card reader).  MC complains about 'something is wrong with my IPod device'...aw what?  [noticed this first in build 9.0.124]

Update:
I see from another thread that SteveG says this might be fixed in 9.0.125.  I will wait for the next release to see if it works (passing 125 for now).

I prefered the old one!
I noticed that some MPG video aren't working. I have the Windows Media 9 version.

When will CD ripping function again? I also cannot convert file formats. This occured around build 113 when you took "something" (WMA encoder?) out.

I'd still like to know why the install file is 5MB less than it was. Thanks

I am still having the problem that when I try and rip the train song Mississippi from the Drops of Jupiter CD media center crashes. It seems to get near the end of encoding that song, gets stuck and then the programs crash.

probably not 9.0.125 specific

MC doesn't show all artists in the following view sheme:

    artist/album       sorted by year

Removing sorting solves the problem.

Small visual differences:

New icon looks great, but the rip box icon in the startbar (windows), and the minimize to systray icons are still using jukebox image.

Auto Rip still not working for me. When I put in the second CD, it does not start to rip. This seems related to the secure copy mode's report at the end.  There does not seem to be a way to turn off the report and clicking ok in the report causes the rip session to end.

  • No matter what settings I choose, MC refuses to burn a CD. All I get is an error message that says "Error writing pre-gap 1"

  • I'm not sure how I feel about System Info automatically copying text to the clipboard. What if I had data on the clipboard already that I couldn't get back and then I decided to check out what this menu item does? Obviously not much of a problem for me, but it could be for somebody.

1) Logitech keyboard player control buttons don't work anymore.

2) The keyboard shortcut for changing Zones (Ctrl ~) doesn't work anymore.

3) The button toolbar can't be moved under the menu bar.  This is by design, but makes the player window too wide once I add all the buttons I often use.

4) Direct Sound only outputs to the front two channels bypassing the Audigy Surround Sound and digital effects software.  If I attempt to use the MC9 DSP effects and JRSS, it does map to all of my 4 channels, but sounds like crap -- lots of crackling.

5) ASIO crashes about a minute into an internet audio stream (MP3 web radio), or if you click on another link while playing a stream.

For the past several builds I have noticed a problem with the title display while listening to streaming internet radio.  The display shows an erroneous Artist from a previous instance preceeding all the correct Artist - Title displays. (Example . . . 'U2 :: Rolling Stones - Satisfaction', 'U2 :: Beck - Sea Changes'  where 'U2' comes from a previous instance of MC listening to that same stream. . . . other Artist names have appeared instead of U2, but there seem to be about the same 3 artist names randomly appearing erroneously.)

The Play/Pause, Stop, Previous and Next buttons on my MS Wireless Multimedia keyboard no longer work with build 125. I have gone back to build 124 where they work correctly.

Here is my system info (after the downgrade to 124):

I have an ATi All-In-Wonder 7500 video/TV card, which came with an ATi-X10 RF remote control. This remote appears to be incompatible with MC as it does not 'see' it.
Also I am using a Logitech Internet keyboard which has Multi-Media control function buttons, which also do not 'see' MC9 so as to control it.

Is there any way to get these to work as MC9 currently is built? If not, will there be any addition to the bulids which will include this remote control?

Hi people
Some minor problems with the last build .125.

1. Can't close MC over File>Exit.
Upper right-hand and X works so do right-click and Close.

2. Lost my MC 9 license. Bought it 22/11 and have had it through all the builds, the Install license... in Help have been greyish, but now I have to restore it. Something to do with the great changes in this build?

3. I have some pictures in TIF or should it be TIFF format. I can't import them to MC. Can anyone give me the answer?

Never the less this is a nice program and you active people at this Forum are doing a fantastic jobb. Special thanks to the Staff. Keep on, this is The Player.

Just listen to Bob Dylan in "Julius and Ethel" which is said to be an rare outtake from the album Infidels.

I have a Creative Sound Blaster Extigy external.  During the Beta testing  of MC, various versions have allowed me use both front and rear output selections for speakers.  This version only allows me to use the front output.  Thank you, Joe Karnes

Any way to have deleted tracks go to the Recycle Bin so they can be undeleted if necessary?

Shift+Delete (or delete from in Media Library) gives you choices about what you want to do.  One of them is "Send to Recycle Bin"

adding an album to playing now adds the tracks in random order, instead of by track #
