Ä, ö, é, ù and other problems...
« on: February 03, 2003, 01:47:24 am »

I put this in the bugs-list already, but I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's something to do with my p.c. (or me)

Up til some versions ago (9.080 or something like that) I had no problems with titles/artists with abovementioned characters in them. But now they're not displayed.
Even worse: I can't even play them anymore.

Anyone: is it a bug or can I set something straight in the options?
It's pretty annoying, I can tell you.

We switched to Unicode.

Could you give your system info from Media Center's Help menu?

Also, can you list a few of the "bad" filenames?

Thanks.

Thanks Matt, that's a bit reassuring.

Here's the info:

====================

List of some songs:

sorry, how the h*ll do I get a picture here? The insert image icon I can't use (probably my fault)
Exporting the list of songs to whatever format doesn't help either: the titles/artists just show the name up til the moment one of these strange characters show up; the rest of that field is blanked out then.

Hope you can help me nonetheless

Jim?
Do you need the extra info?
If yes: tell me how and I'll give it to you gladly; I have a .jpg of a screendump.
(separate mail maybe?)

Can you try backing up your library and then deleting the *.jmd files in your MC\Data directory?

Then after a re-import, are the files right?  If not, send a file to matt @ jriver.com (no spaces)

If yes, then something got goofed with your library.  We can dig further if that's the case.

You can restore from your library backup after that test.

Thanks Mark.

Hi Matt,

re-importing the files did the trick: they appeared in right names/titles.
So much for the test.

When I restore my backup the whole lot will be messed up again, I assume; or could I just replace a couple of .jmd's so that my playlists work again?
Or should I wait until you fixed this Unicode-upgrade-problem?

Thanks in advance!

You can restore from your backup, and then do a:

-select all
-right-click->tools->update library from tags (always)

It should pick up the right info from the files then.

Also, if you have an old MC library that used to work, but turns to bad characters when trying it in the latest build, send it to matt @ jriver.com and we'll see if there's a bug in the library upgrade code.

Thanks!

Sorry, Matt: that did not do the trick.

So I want to send you the info you asked, but what is that info exactly? Is the zip of my backup enough for you?

Maybe.  It'll only help if the backup is from before MC goofed up.  If it's a backup of an already goofed up library, it's too late to troubleshoot.

Thanks Mark.

I'll check my backups at home.
You'll hear from me.

Thanks so far

What a pity: I recently threw away some 50 backups - the oldest I've got now is not old enough.

I have to change everything by hand now. Quite a job as I have to do this one by one.

One question in this respective, though, as this takes quite a lot of time for every file I have to re-import: in the older versions you could see in the properties and (better) in the pop-up info (mouse-over) of a file in which playlists they reside. I can't find this very usefull information anymore, though.
Is it really gone?
Please an answer on this one - then I'll be fine with this re-import routine.

However: you have to find the cause of this problem before you introduce the final version of number 9.

Matt, please answer. I'm getting a RSI-arm here.

Furthermore: the searchbar still can't display these characters, so after I've re-imported all those 'corrupt' files, I can't search for them anymore (apart from typing other search-strings for that specific song).

So: still a bug

Next build should fix this.

Also, playlists aren't currently in the tooltip, but maybe we could add them.

Thanks.
