Some Good News Maybe - CDDB
« on: February 16, 2003, 08:46:56 am »

Today i sat down and played with The MJ SDK And The CDDB Dlls.

I Created A Plug-In For MC9 and I Was Able To Load Up MC9 And Go To The PlugIn And Have The Plug-In Go To CDDB And Get The Disk Info And Just Put It In A List Box.

If This Could Be Used To Fill The CD Info Grid In MJ Is Another Story.

I think I would need J River to help with the MC9 SDK to allow me to save that info to the CD Info Grid.

If they will not allow this then I do not see how a Plugin could be made for FreeDB and CDDB.

Once the v9 SDK is released you'll be able to just fill in the info pretty easily wont you??

I cant see MJ working too hard to help you out as they took the feature out in the first place, they obviously want to push their own db.

I'm not too sure how smart a move removing support for cddb is as a lot of first time users who come to the program, if they insert a cd that isn't in YADB or whatever it's called will get put off MJ and consider it not having cddb support as a big bug.

This is especially more likely I think to happen with new release albums as cddb is the standard that everyone uses and submits to as soon as they get an album, only users of MJ will be submitting to YADB unless I'm missing something so the cd info wont be available until a user of MJ submits it rather than just being accessible as soon as ONE person anywhere using any software submits it.

No, not unless there is support to update the CD with Info.

Anyway ,if you find a way to use it and to upload infos to YADB ,contact me. Legal or not
It would help me A LOT to upload the cds infos to YADB

Well thats another question.

Not Sure, I Did ask CDDB but never got an answer from them.

Per my license I am required to do and not do somethings. I see no place where this will violate my license with CDDB.

I can be mistaken.

===================================

If Not with CDDB Why Not FreeDB? or maybe somthing else

In that case I would still need to push the data to the CD info Grid.

===================================

How I picture this to work is

the user would use YADB as normal

if not found they go to the plugin

[Search For CD Data]

If CD found push data to MC9

then exit the plugin to the CD data grid
