I have a strange wish.  The ability to QUICKLY on the fly while watching a movie, swap renderers.  E.G. I'd like to be able to toggle between madvr and jrvr either by having a profile I can switch to or being able to just switch the video renderer.

Couldn't you do that with Zones?

You can't, it's v clunky. It's basically just stop, send to another zone and then have to go and change the active zone before keyboard shortcut for display view will work. I use 2 zones for this for the same reason btw but it's actually quicker to stop and go into options instead.

Diversion feature could be perhaps used for this. So doing Diversion between two zones (one zone set to use jrvr and the other for madvr).

Ctrl-T toggles zones.

zones means playing the same item twice and being able to context switch seamlessly between them even though they're targeting the same output (audio and video) devices, I don't see how that can possibly work

the request here is to play a single item and be able to switch just the renderer essentially on the fly

Did you check diversion? Of course you can switch renderers completely seamlessly but diversion can switch whatever was played to new zone and continue playing it there

I looked at https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=129704.0 which says it should be in playing now, I can't see any divert option though?

I tried it using MCWS, it has the same problem I mentioned earlier regarding not updating the current zone. It means

start playback in 1 zone and be watching the display
send the divert command
view switches to the playing now view
original zone is still current so if you press ctrl+3 then it shows a black screen because nothing is playing there

IME controlling display view programmatically is really slow (and quite flaky) but I guess it could automated (divert, setactivezone, change display mode) via some script

I'd say technically possible but really clunky and a bit slow

I'll need to look at this later when I get a minute.  I'm not sure if zones will work for what I want or not.

I just tested with video.  It works.

ok I found it, the instruction said "right click on the zone under playing now" so I went to the place in the attached thinking that's what it meant but it's actually only available via the zone in that tree area. Why does this option only appear in one magical place? seems a good way to thoroughly hide a useful feature!

the behaviour here has the same problem

i.e. it does not change the current zone and the display *follows* the active zone

there are 2 things required IMO to make this useful for this case

1) an option to divert *and* activate the target zone in one go (unless there is some other option that enables this behaviour already?)
2) make divert an option in the right click menu in display view

without the latter, you need some remote to make use of it (otherwise you have to drop out of display view which defeats the point)

+1, that would be very useful if it could be done quickly and easily (right click during playback and pick option)
