MC thinks every CD is the same one
« on: February 12, 2003, 05:46:47 am »

Hi,
I recently moved up from MJ to MC.  I ripped about 50 of my CDs whith no problem.  yesterday, however, I experience a two-part problem:

1) BAD: I loaded a 'stone roses' audio CD into the tray.   MC used YADB to get the track info, but came back with the right 12 tracks plus 20 or so extra tracks. Then, it would not let me play/rip any of the tracks on the CD.   (this is not that big a deal)

2) WORSE: Now, MC thinks every NEW CD I load into the tray is that same stone roses CD. of course, it won't let me play/rip the new ones either.   I turned off the CD YADB track info feature and tried a new disc - no luck. MC still thinks it is the stone roses.  So, my CD playing and ripping functionality is dead.

This error first occured on 9.0.105.0, but I upgraded to 9.0.11 today - does not help.

I'm running windows 2000 pro.

how can I reset this part of my database so that I can start ripping cds again?

thanks

in the tree on the left,go to media and delete the Stone Roses entry.
This is a very annoying problem

Look like the cd infos you get is not  for your cd.
12 songs must be they first or second.
Beside this you cannot have a cd with 32 tracks ,they did not have one minute songs.
Try again: after deleting the entry in the left tree ,from start-seach ,find the cdplayer.ini folder.Open it and remove the Stone Roses entry you will find.
After that ,submit it again to YADB and ,with luck you may get the good info

Thanks yonathan -

unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an entry for the stone roses in the cdplayer.ini file -- it stops with the last CD I successfully ripped (before the stone roses). (same with the media library tree on the left side)

can I erase the whole cdplayer.ini file and start over?

thanks
Jonathan

Ok ,i reproduced this problem.
But not as you cause the cd infos is in cdplayer.ini folder
In the left tree under Media librairy-cd&dvd look at genre/volumename and volume name.
If you do not see Stones Roses under Volume Name ,do you see  Compact Disk.
You may see Compact Disck 1
-----------------------------------  2
ect ,in fact as much as cds you  loaded getting the Stones Roses cd infos. If you right click oneach Compact Disk 1-2-3 you must get the Stones Roses cd info in the right window

Under  Genre /Volumename you must have : [unassigned ] click on it and you may have x times Stone Roses
Delete all of them.
I am very surprise you do not have the Stone Roses cd infos in 'cdplayer.ini'.
You can delete it . It will selfcreate  himself again the first time you load a cd in MC.

After all deleted , try again.

I cannot check myself because all my Stone Roses are in vinyl LPs.
But you must have or the first UK edition or they second one or  Remix. They are the only ones with 12 songs as far as i know.
I cannot imagine that this is not in YADB.

By the way Garage Flowers is very very good ,give it a try......

That did the trick. I erased the few mis-allocated volume names from the library on the left, and things seem to be back to normal.
Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out!
