Tagging Failure
« on: February 12, 2003, 06:09:57 am »

I have about 1300 files for which the tag "won't stick".  When I create their tag or modify their tags I get the "failed to update" window.
I recently had to create a new library and when re-importing I ended up with 1300 files that were listed as Track (some number) with unknown artist.  This leaves no way to slueth out what songs these files actually are (except to play them; and they all play fine).  The same happens when importing from one of the other stations on my network.  YADB has not helped to identify these files.
How can I fix this.  Once I identify these 1300 files again I'd like to have the tags stay linked permanently.
Thanks for the help,
Ken

What kind of files?  Are they read-only?

I'm having the same issues as him without about 1/4 of my collection it seems. I edit fields and they are "failed to update". None of the files in question are read-only at all. I have the plugoin configured for both tags to write regardless as well as the checkbox in the lower-right of the main screen checked. Is this a bug that can be fixed somehow? I'd hate to think I did all this work for nothing! Thanks.

Do you have files you can identify where it always fails?

What's different about the files?

Were they created with another encoder?

Do you use another tag editor?

Any information you can think of might be useful.

APE, WMA and MP3 Files.  All files were created and tagged in MC.  No third party encoders or tag editors.  I can find nothing unusual about them.
I can rip a CD and one song only one song may have the problem.

If you have a file that tagging reproducibly fails on, please email it to me and we'll try to fix it.  ( matt @ jriver.com )
