Blu-ray Problem
« on: February 01, 2024, 11:09:26 am »

Installed v32 first time today. V31 was not present, I imported my previously saved library.

The one thing I quickly noticed is that MC crashes instantly (its processes disappear) when trying to play a Blu-Ray. Tried BD folders and mounted ISO, not an actual disc. The same occurs on all three Red October modes.

Not using Defender - also tried disabling my security software. Didn't see any prompts/warnings from there. Never had this particular issue with previous MC versions on the same machine. Standard video playback works, DVD too.

MC 32.0.8 64-bit.

I attach a screenshot of what has been downloaded in the Plugins folder:

Take a look at the Blu-ray topic on the wiki.  You may need to install other software.

This is unencrypted content that worked on all previous MC versions without extra software. There's nothing specific about MC32 in the wiki. As a test, I installed MC31 after having installed MC32. It crashes in the same way.

So, my question: has there been a recent update in the auto-downloaded components/plugins that are used for BD playback? Perhaps a newer version there is causing the crash.

There's a chance a firewall or something has blocked the download of the components MC usually downloads when attempting to play some video formats on a new, fresh install. Something to check to see if anything is being downloaded.

I've posted my downloaded components right in the first post. I will delete them all and try again later.

I have tried again with default MC settings. Did not import my previous library. Issue remains.

Components have been downloaded correctly. I found some discs that play normally. They are in the minority though. Around 7/10 discs crash MC instantly. The first disc I tried played normally, and that's why I said all components have been downloaded properly.

The issue only occurs in BD Menu Mode. Starting a BD in title mode, plays normally. Switching to Menu Mode crashes MC instantly.

I can only think as a cause a recently updated plugin that MC downloads and uses. But only you can tell me which that may be, and perhaps provide a previous version for me to try.

Since MC31 also crashes, I assume 31 and 32 download and use the exact same plugins. Please remember that these discs always played correctly in MC with no crashes, until recently.

With crashes what we really need is the crash dump included with the log package. Otherwise there really isnt anything to go on right now.

I now noticed that sometimes (not always), a log file is created in the BD folder location by the Java Runtime Environment when the crash occurs. Just sent you one such log file at: logs at jriver dot com.

What kind of CPU do you have? The error contains references to illegal instructions, which might point to a build issue in one of the components.
