Sidecar files?
« on: August 16, 2024, 10:20:29 am »

Hello,

Is there a way to discover why Media Center creates a sidecar XML file?

When updating tags in my music collection, there are two directories (out of >1000) for which MC is creating sidecars whenever Tag updates are forced.  The filetype there is (audio) ogg, present in many of the other directories as well.  No sidecar files are being created anywhere else.

I recently reset the permissions and ownership for those directories and their contents (residing on an NTFS volume).  Those are now the same as everywhere else.

Finally, would the absolute path that seems to be present in the XML sidecars pose any problem to a portable JRiver installation (where the install drive is definitely making use of a different drive letter)?

Thanks!

Well, somewhat answering my own first question ...  Looks like MC regarded the files as having some video content.

I re-generated all the files using ffmpeg, and creation of the sidecar files has ceased.

Nevertheless, it would be interesting to know how a portable MC install might handle sidecar files from a desktop installation.
