MC on Raspberry Pi query
« on: August 29, 2024, 11:44:42 pm »

Thought I would have a crack at this as a bit of a hobby exercise more than anything else, have started to look into it and it seems pretty straightforward but have a couple of queries.

What I would like to do is have the Pi in an enclosure with MC running on Raspberry Pi OS as a DLNA renderer. I would also like to have a screen on the Pi enclosure to display album artwork, there looks to be plenty of hardware options here.

What I would like to know is for the video output, is it as simple as having MC displayed running on the screen as per any other monitor setup - in Display Mode lets say - or is there a way to output file metadata from the pi to the screen that includes album art, track title, etc to mimic the look of a commercially available Streamer?

Thanks

Yes.

The easiest solution is an IdPi.  https://jriver.com/Id/

Thanks Jim, I have this working in my mock up and it does the job well.

Just looking at options though and would still like to know whether I have the flexibility to configure the display output with metadata from a flac file like the hastily arranged attachment (ignore the Spotify symbol - but like to think I could add something else here), or whether using one of the default display modes  from MC is the only option.

Thanks

The Linux version should work the same as the Windows version, if that helps.

Yep, I have an instance of MC running on Raspberry Pi OS on my laptop as a DLNA renderer and am playing with that. I’m assuming the Pi itself will work them same way when I get around to it.
