Volume levelling
« on: October 07, 2024, 01:55:20 am »

Is there a way to set the max volume when using Volume Leveling?

Within DSP and Output Format I have both Volume Leveling and Adaptive Volume checked and they seem to do what I want, all tracks play at a similar volume. However.......the leveled volume is too low for my taste.

Hence the question.

Maybe Small Speaker Mode?

No that didn't work.
With Analyze Audio what determines the volume it 'levels' at?

Its based on the EBU R 128 specification, at a fixed target of -23 LUFS.

can you show audio path when you're playing back something that is "too quiet"?

as per https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Adaptive_Volume the combination of peak level normalise + volume levelling should not (as far as I know) result in large volume reductions so if it's still too quiet it may mean the cause is outside MC, audio path should show this.

Some people think the R 128 standard of -23 LUFS is too quiet. Therefore, some players have an option to set it to a higher value like -18 LUFS. Might be something to consider as an option.

Not going to lie, this would be a little interesting... well, as long as you don't need to do anything like re-analyze audio. If not, is this something that could be done? Might be a worthy audio upgrade for MC33. ;D

Well I've fiddled around with various settings and MY problem seems to have been DSP/Volume Levelling. So I've unchecked that, leaving Adaptive on it's own and I'm happy with the results.

BTW I've been talking about using the settings with a playlist of mixed tracks, not a single LP.

Thanks for all the comments.
