A way to filter the display to only show certain works.
« on: January 25, 2025, 02:36:43 am »

Is there some way to filter the custom views so that I only see certain types of works.

For example, I have a category view called "Operas" and this shows me all the operas that I have. but it shows them as the opera name. Can I show this so that under the Opera view I see the list of composers and then I can go to each composer and see the Operas for that composer.

Happy to include is a screen shot if someone can show me how to do that please.

ah so, the screenshot did appear!!

So, as you can see, its a bit of mess.  It would be nice to display these by Composer and then by conductor and then show the name of the Opera.

Once I have done this for the Operas, I can move on to my other Classical tracks, like Symphonies, Choral works, Piano Sonatas, Chamber works etc.

Anyone?

There MUST be someone else out there who has fixed this issue...

Customize that Opera view and set it up like this:

On the left
- View as: Categories
- Show Categories in Orders: The order you want your fields to show up as
eg.
  - Composer
  - Conductor
  - Opera (or whatever field you use for that)

Hey Henrick, thanks for that but I already tried that and got a real mess.

The reason was that the composer field is also populated for for non classical type of tracks. So Abba will have the two Swedes as the composers etc.

In any case, I just managed to fix this by doing the following:
I created a new field called Opera Composer and then populated that by filtering for just the operas and then mass populating that field using =[Composer]. Then I just customize the view to show Opera Composer, followed by Opera.

We got there in the end.

You can also achieve that by using "Set rules for file display" on the right of the Customization dialog, and filter which files show up at all that way - eg. where your opera field isnt empty, or the Genre matches, or whatever rule needed.

I find the "Panes" option is the best way for me to drill down to what I want to see.

You can also try once a view is created you can right click on it and click on "Customize View".  In the Settings section near the bottom you have the option to "Browse Shared Views on server"  Then under "Options" you can select various items.  One of which is "User".  So you can view my views by looking for "JcTcom".  I don't have a lot of classical music but I had created a view for it.

You can download that view and then change out whatever fields you would rather see than the ones I have in there.

But I would suggest creating a new basic view and then browse user's views for downloading and testing.  Don't use one you already have an like.
