windows xp users account
« on: January 25, 2003, 08:01:01 pm »

I am using Windows XP Pro and I spend most of my time logged on as a power user/user, but I am unable to make changes to file properties or save a playlist unless I am logged on as an administrator.  I am currently using Media Center Ver. 9.0.102.

I have changed the permission for users to full control in the registry for JRiver and that didn't work.

Any suggestions?

normaly they tell you to install it for every user that wishes to use the program.

so if you install it as the user you normaly use i would think it would allow for changes.

I don't use a login at all

This is going to turn out to be an interesting topic...

KingSparta - since you write plug-ins, perhaps you'd like to think about this one for a while. MC9 wants to have Plug-ins set up their Registry info in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE from our DllRegisterServer() routine.

Unless MC9 prepares the user environment with sufficient privilege to create keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE prior to calling DllRegisterServer()... only users with Admin privilege will be able to install Plug-ins.

This also means that all users of MC9 on one machine will get the same Plug-in set.

It seems that the MC8 conventions of HKEY_CURRENT_USER were more flexible and circumvented the Administrator Privilege issues.

they have not devoted to much time to the SDK, when they get the bugs worked out of MC and i hope before release they document the MC9 SDK and attack some of the registery issues.

they did do some work on it in the past few versions but i don't think most of it will be addressed untill release.

i feel that once the SDK is released this may be a better time to address this issue.

Then again if they would like input prior to the SDK being set in stone so to speak maybe now would be better.

Hard to say

I'll try installing on my working account when I get a chance.  Thanks for the feedback.

One of the nice things about having the different user accounts in windows xp is being able to have your own unique settings.  I share this computer with other family members, but my 14 year-old and I don't share the same taste in skins and music.   :)
