No sound from MC29 and MC33
« on: February 13, 2025, 01:32:27 pm »

I am having new trouble with Media center, which I have used problem free for several years. I was using version 29, but when the trouble started I upgraded to 33, but it made no difference and the trouble persists.

What happens is that I start the program and it will not play. If I close it and start the program again, it still won’t play. I press play and the play arrow comes on, and there is the hint of green on the playing now line, but no movement, and no sound. The only way I can make it play is with a complete reboot. Then I get one play session. I close the program and next time I open, same thing again.

I am using the most current version of MS operating system on a Dell desktop.

Search the web with:
jriver mc - does not play audio
and similar.

To search the Interact Forum directly, try entering "no audio", or "no sound", (with double quotes) in its Search Bar at top right.
Left mouse button click on the magnifying glass icon opens the Advanced Search Window.

The Wiki:  https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Main_Page
Try entering "Audio Playback" in its upper right Search Bar, which for example leads to https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Playback_Problems
That was last updated over 10 years ago, but may still be helpful.

@barryallen - if the search help already provided doesn't provide a solution, what changed in your pc hardware and software right before the playback broke (before you did any MC upgrades)? I ask because a new version of Windows or hardware changes can cause/reveal unexpected issues. Some specs on the OS version and the Dell desktop along with the playback chain (DAC etc.) and MC audio output device could also be helpful.

Try playing to another device.  It could be driver related.

Test from Windows > Sounds.
