How to shave beginning and/or end off of songs?
« on: December 18, 2002, 06:55:48 am »

Is there a way to perminantly remove the beginning and/or end off of a song?  There are a few live songs that I really like, but all the talking and cheering can be too much when not listening to a complete album.

Also, the "check for MJ updates" button doesn't seem to find any updates anymore, even when updated versions do exist that I can download manually ... I assume this is only because I am using the beta version of MediaCenter9, and that it will start working once it is no longer beta, right?

Yes, AFAIK.

In MC: Tools/Media Editor and open the file you wish to change. The select the parts of the waveform you dont want and press delete. Save the file back as an mp3 (or whatever). Of course this does permanently remove the bits you delete, ie changes the file, so it would be a good idea to keep a backup in case of problems. Also, Im not sure, but I think media editor decompresses mp3s to a wav for editing and then recompresses them, which is not desirable as it can degrade the quality of the mp3.

And I think you are right about check for updates.

MP3Trim can do that, plus it can "clean" bad mp3's (ie, with bad frames, etc, that can cause sound blips, etc) and it keeps tags intact

And there is also MP3DirectCut
