YADB is pretty cool
« on: December 11, 2002, 09:53:04 am »

I've started a mega CD ripping project at home.

After about 100 CD's I'm really impressed with YADB.  While it did miss some CD's most were really obscure (like the one I bought on a Barefoot Tallship Cruise).  The only one that I've been surprised about was a Pete Townshend CD that I setup and then sent to the DB. :)

The ones it did find included some pretty obscure stuff.

Well done JRiver!

Thanks TimB, It's nice to hear. How about multiple matches? Did you get many of those (and also thanks for all your work in cleaning up that part too).

I checked on the Pete Townshend and it did appear one other time , but it is pretty clearly a different pressing or a home-burned version. I might be able to improve the fuzzy matching to cover this case, we'll see.

OKay,

I'm thinking there is a problem with my accessing of YADB since I'm 0 for 6 attempts to have YADB find my CD's.

I'm running Win 98, MJ 9.0.83 and IE 6.0.2800.1106

The message is always CD not found.

Also, I can't find the UI to submit the CD to YADB after I've entered in the information manually.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

I don't know why it is the way it is and have said the way it is is hard to find.

But if you click on the CD in the tree to the left and right click, you will find a submit. There is no UI it just takes the info in MJ for that CD you entered and sends it to YADB.

I hope the fix this.

Stick a CD in the drive, note the time, do a lookup, and post the time here (and your IP address if you know it).  Also tell me the name/artist and whether it was home-burned or store-bought. I'll check it out.

I totally agree.... YADB is MUCH improved from when we first started using it under the early releases of MJ9.

It now returns many more hits then before with few errors.

In fact, I now think it is almost on a par with CDDB & improving daily.

It's something I can now live peacefully with.

As Sony & Phillps completly missed out when they created the CD standard in the 70's by not making the album data (including cover art) embedded in the CD, it would be great if...

we can only convence the record industry to enter all new recording data (and hi-res cover art) into YADB.

If that would happen,  we would almost never have to manually enter the data ourselves.
