A while back I remember using a program that could determine the encoder used to make an mp3.  I think it was called EncSpot -- not sure though.  It utlized some type of algorithim to scan the mp3 headers ... to be honest it was a tad over my head.
Anyhow, I tested it with some mp3's I had made with different encoders, and it's results were fairly accurate.  I was wondering if anyone else actually cared about this type of information and if there was any hope of seeing something like this in MJ (MC now?)  I'm pretty sure the source code for the algorithim is freely available...

some programs give the encoder info (Like helium) some Mp3's you will never know. sometimes the program will make a Guess as to what the encoder is.

EncSpot i found to be a waste of money.

As long as the MP3 sounds good what does it matter? but sometimes maybe i could see where this info would come in handy if you had nothing to do and wanted to review all the encoders your mp3's were burned with and you put the version numbers down in a Log book that you sleep with at night so you can count them and fall a sleep faster.
