New Search Interface...
« on: September 30, 2002, 05:55:46 pm »

OK I give up. Hoew is the new search interface used. What is the magic set of key or mouse intructions. I need to create a recently imported playlist that is actually useful to try and get back what we had before, a recently imported list that could be cleared. The problem is that I can't get consistenrt results with the search. If I type more times then not the query doesn't seem to "engage". In other wrods there is no underline. If I use the wizard, most of what I need is under the Advanced tab and this isn't working either. To make things even more problematic a simple = is rarely what I need and as soon as I edit a search query it no longer works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Your best bet is to wait a few weeks for the search wizards to shape up.  If things are still confusing after that, just let us know.

Thanks.

I'm not playing with v9 purely because I want to be able to keep using v8 as I want to be able to keep listening to my music nicely but I gotta say - I love the sounds of this. Wizards are definitely a nice thing ;)

Keep them up!! :)

Hi Matt,

Thanks for responding.

It seems like others are able to use these feature, so I'm assuming that they work. I create interfaces for databases for a living, granted they are Web-based, but I'm comfortable creating queries. I guess what I was asking was is this part not funtional as presented? Or should I be presenting a bug list?

Thanks! This is really going to kick butt when it's ready. I'm just a little surprised that even the manual entry of a text query doesn't seem to be working. How were the sample files created?

On another note...

I have about 400 albums with covers assigned that I'd like to move. It appears that search and replace doesn't include the album cover field so I can't just update the path info. It there a way to do this easily? I've already spent about 6-8 hours changing these manually, I'm down to about 400.

I found the magic search word to find the thread about how to use the current form of the search or autoplaylist. The word is "underline".

The following appears to be true...

1. Search queries must be typed. The advanced properties wizard either doesn't work or only works at certain hours of the day while wearing socks only--no shoes.

2. Even though the query may end up displaying as Date Imported: =120, it needs to be typed dateimported =<=120.

Once I keep these in mind and take off my shoes, I'm able to edit/create autoplaylists, etc. :D

The new search wizard is a fairly complicated control underneath, and we had to write it from scratch.  There's bound to be some bugs -- just add them to the bug thread and we'll try to get them taken care of.

Thanks for all your help Quisp.

-Matt

(p.s. we know that number type searches / wizards aren't working great yet...)
