ôk i bought me a itrip
BUT it seems itrip requires musicmatch to be installed so big deal i reinstall it again
but after finishing the itrip installation all my tracks seem to be gone from my ipod
so i put them back in with MC9 but i cant see them anywhere listed in the ipod

anybody has an idea what this might be ?

Try reinitializing your iPod from within MC. Perhaps MusicMatch wrote some data to the iPod database that messed things up. I would recommend not going back and forth between MusicMatch and MC when sending files to the iPod.

This is one of the things that is concerning me.  I've pre-ordered an iTrip for my Gen3, and am concerned that it won't work with MC9.

The iTrip lets you "dial in" a radio station to broadcast on, via the controls on your iPod.  To do this, you upload special playlists to your iPod.  I don't fully understand it, because I don't have mine yet, but these special playlists have been designed to upload via mmjb to the iPod.

Without them, you can't use the iTrip.  I hope that when they start shipping the Gen3 iTrips, I can give more information, but it shouldn't be much different than the Gen1/2 iTrips.

it seems like it was musicmatch which messed everything up
itrip requires musicmatch so i used it to upload the frequency list
which automaticly removed my music files
so i needed to format again and do everything manually
so it wouldnt end up in having unnamed playlists
which seems to give a conflict in the fw

For the itrip for the G1/G2 ipods, the "songs" that change the frequency of the itrip existed in a directory on the install CD. I didn't even mess with the installation program. I just copied those songs to my hard drive and made my own playlist from within MC. I wouldn't imagine it being any more difficult for the G3 itrips.

That's excellent news, and makes me much more hopeful!

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but, a step-by-step would be...

1.  Put in the iTrip CD and cancel whatever pops up
2.  Find the folder that all of the radio station "songs" are in, copy it to your hard drive
2a.  For safety's sake, perhaps these "songs" should be made read-only?  A little attrib +r c:\music\iTrip\*.mp3 action, perhaps?  That way MC won't futz with 'em.
3.  Import these "songs" into your MC library.  Put them all in a playlist/smartlist
4.  Sync/upload your new "stations" playlist to the iTrip
5.  Pick up the owner's manual and start reading it from the point after the songs have been uploaded, because everything's cool.

PS, how do you like the sound quality?  Is the iTrip good at transmitting from, say, inside a backpack or pocket?  Or does it need to be within line-of-sight of the antenna?

It does work!

1. skip the installer!
2. Copy the stations file from CD to your HD -
3. Manually import the stations file into MJ
    - You need to go to advanced mode and force import of files shorter than 5 seconds!
4. Create "iTrip Control" playlist
5. Send all your staion files to this playlist
6. sync and enjoy

I have one and it works well with MC once you have the station setting playlist in MC (see above)

Does it work...
No line of sight is needed it will work very well in the boot of a car
If you can get a "station" with no or weak competing signal - sound quality is excellent
In the UK the best station I have found is 87.9 which has a weakish London station on it (most of the time the iTrip outcompetes it except within a 15 mile radius of London where the quality is poor)

On balance... I rate the iTrip as excellent value for money and easier than a cabled install of an iPod in the car
The only downside I can see vs a cabled installation is the 5-6 hr battery life of a 2G iPod
