I just got an HP-based PC, Microsoft Media Center PC (MSMC). I also have a trial download of MC, and really like a lot of the features. I also like my MSMC PC, in that the IR remote control input, and standard televison output comes already working!

Here's what I'm trying to do - with minimum effort: Use MC as my sophisticated interface. Rip via LAME VBR alt-preset-extreme all my CDs. Create playlists etc, via MC. But, when in front of my TV, just use my remote and TV to play albums, artists, playlists, and so forth.

With this strategy, my only effort would be ripping my CDs. I wouldn't have to become an expert on creating new TV-viewable screens, IR control, and so forth.

Two questions? Will this work? Am I overestimating the efforts just to use a Hairstyle mode and IR to do the same thing?
