MC Slows to a crawl when trying to burn
« on: October 30, 2003, 05:52:50 pm »

Just tried to burn a CD and noticed the following:

If there is a blank CD in the drive and I go to select the tracks that I want to burn then MC continuously accesses the drive, slowing MC down.  The HD light constantly blinks like the drive is being searched, but nothing ever happens.  If I close MC then the drive accesses stop.  Also, if there's NOT a blank CD in the drive, then MC stays normal and doesn't access the drive nor does it slow down.

ALso have Nero 5.5.10.50 and Norton Antivirus 2003.  I remember that there was a thread at one time talking about this... (I think...)

I think I saw something hereabouts that said that if you had InCD (the Nero packet writer) installed, it might caused problems for other apps trying to burn CD's.

The packet writer software is the stuff that allows Windows to use your CD like a whopping big floppy.

Hope this helps...

Try going into Tools/Options/Device and setting all the "Action to perform.." to "Nothing", then restart MC. If the problem goes away, there is probably a conflict between MC and the Norton anti-virus program. Go into the anti-virus program and turn off the automatic checking of CD's, then re-enable the "action to perform" in MC.

Thanks JohnT, that worked like a charm!!!!!  Now MC is just a fast as before.  I think I'll just leave the selections as "Nothing" since it doesn't seem to hinder the operation of MC in any way (unless you say otherwise).  Thanks again!
