Read Tags from outside MC
« on: October 31, 2003, 02:37:18 pm »

I have just lost my database :'(, and my backup was to the same physical drive :-[ (fortunately, the music is on a separate drive)

OK then ... No problems, all my data (bar one field) was stored in tags which I can re-import ....

MC does not seem to import some tag data unless there is a tag already created in the options. If I import the files, the data tag data does not appear until I create the tag in options, then the data can be imported.

Problem.... How can I see the names of the tags so that I can create them in options and get at my data?

Thanks.

In MC, highlight the file, go to the Action Window and select File Properties>File Type Info. Under ID3v1 and v2, you will see all the tags in the file. Yes, you either have to import it first or File>Open Media File.

For 3rd party, you could do a google on Tagger or check out Shelly's recent post on favorite utilities.

Yes, you have to create the user defined fields first, if you want to import your files to a different or new library.

This lack of auto-creating user defined fields at import time has been reported several times in the past. Matt said that they had to change the database design to do that, so it does not seem easy to implement!

Out of curiosity, will someone tell me what database engine MC uses?  Is there any possibility of an API directly to the database?
