More YADB problems
« on: November 16, 2003, 05:17:14 pm »

I can't seem to get anything from YADB.  Each time I try I get the "Action failed", "Failed to connect to YADB server" box.  I've checked my firewall and it happens the same way with the firewall disabled.

Is this a temporary condition or is there something I should change?

Tom

Does it happen when you try to rip a CD?  Or when you look up individual tracks?

Firewalls can still be a problem even when they are "deactivated".  Uninstalling has sometimes been necessary.

I can confirm this situation. It is happen also for me. :(

When I updated an infrmation about CD-Audio form YADB then I got nothing back. The previous version of the MC9 (9.1.291) had no problems with updating the information about CD-Autio, but actual one (9.1.305) can't access the YADB server from some reasons:

My system Info is here: http://www.albedo.art.pl/~murphy/MC91/system_info.txt

I don't think this is a problem with 305 (it works fine for me, and has been all weekend).

Has your networking changed? What happens if you open http://www.yadb.com/ in a browser?

I just downloaded 9.1.305, and am also getting this error. I searched my hard drive to see if any log files or anything were generated, and what I found in my temporary internet files was a cgi file that did have the info for the cd I looked up, but it didn't update into the program.  I had looked up a couple of cd's before updating to 305, and had no problems, but have been unable to since. Not sure what number release I had before?

I could send the file if it would help,  it's some kind of markup file, not html-that's not something I'm very familiar with.

This could be a security issue on your PC.  I don't think anything has changed with YADB.

Can you compare notes on what other software you're running?

I don't think this is a problem with 305 (it works fine for me, and has been all weekend).

Unfortunatelly it is not a case for me. :( But I did a test!  8)
On the laptop (Win2k) where I still have installed a version MC9.1.291 there was no problem with updating the info about CD-A:

   http://www.albedo.art.pl/~murphy/MC91/yadb/mc9.1.291.jpg

But on the Desktop where I decide to have a new one, there is no way to update the CD-A info:

   http://www.albedo.art.pl/~murphy/MC91/yadb/mc9.1.305.jpg
   http://www.albedo.art.pl/~murphy/MC91/yadb/mc9.1.305_2.jpg

The internet is accessible from the desktop PC throught a ZoneAlarm and the portable takes a conection from Winroute from this DesktopPC, so:

Internet ----> ZoneAlarm --> Desktop ---> Winroute -> laptop ----> MC9.1.291
                                                  |
                                                 \/
                                              MC9.1.305

And 305 can't access the YADB database, but 291 can even it has a more difficult conditions.

This one return this:

It looks like there is no problem with security on the PC, but only with the MC9.1.305.

Happens when I rip or choose "Update..." from the context menu for the CD drive.  There are no changes to my networking.  It worked on a previous version of MC9 (not sure of the number though).

Try 306, the latest build. The fix to media server may also fix YADB.

Let me know,

Do any of y'all have fixed IP addresses? This will let me see if you are getting to the server or not.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck on dial-up. However, I believe I am reaching the server, because, as I noted earlier, I get a file in my Temporary Internet Files folder that actually has info about the CD I'm trying to look-up. The error has always been "Failed to reach server", but it appears it is reaching the server, just not getting the info back to MC.

We can't reproduce the problem here. If someone that's having the problem could run a "debug" version and give us the results it would be very helpful.

Please email me and I'll send you the diagnostic component.

For me, I just put 2 CD in for a rip on my two drives, one " Failed to Connect" the other worked just fine.

This is a Computer that is dedicated to Media Center, it only has on in Win 2k, Internet Explorer and Media Center.  Connecting via a cable modem.
