EXIF Data
« on: December 17, 2003, 12:41:17 pm »

Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to rename an image file by it's EXIF data?

I can't figure it out.  To me this is an essential feature for any Photo Organizer.

What I want to do is easily rename all of my photos based on the EXIF data, it is really the only way to have a descriptive unique filename for each file without spending years renaming all of them by yourself.

I have found that if I rename each file in this format:
YYYY-MM-DD - HH-MM-SS
(year-month-day - hour-minute-second)
Every file has its own unique filename and if I alphabetize the names they will always come out in chronological order.  With over 10000 photos for me this type of organization is essential.

I've been using MediaCenter for my photo organization ever since it came out and it is by far the best software for organization, except that it does not have this feature, that I'm aware of at least.

Please take my suggestions seriously as I really think it be an extremely beneficial feature.

MC reads EXIF data when it imports.

To rename files, try MC/Library Tools/Rename File from Properties.

Do a few before you do a lot.

And for the ultra paranoid - make copies of the files and play with the copies so you dont risk the originals at all :)

But JimH, I can't get the EXIF data into the properties, can I?

Also is there a way to change the text fields below Thumbnails?  Or a way to have mediacenter make all the thumbnails before having to scroll through everything first?

FrankL (aka Andy),

You can use the Date fields to rename - and as Jim mentioned, they are automatically filled from the EXIF data.  My favorite for renaming like you mention is [Date (filename friendly)].

Hi

Never could get "acquire Images" to work with my Kodak 4300, even though its close to Scotts camera.

(Keeps saying there are no pic in the camera. Maybe its the docking station causeing the prob.)

Have to always use Kodak software and then import and then change prop.

It would be nice if we could Import "our way" on images.

Thanks
Griff

Hey, Griff...  long time, no see!  I trust you've been well and that the Christmas season finds you in good spirits!

Scott-

P.S.  I had hoped the acquire images would get a polish in v9.1.  Now I'm hoping for v10.  Which reminds me, I need to post my suggestions/requests!

Hi Scott

Ya, long time, no see.

Been a busy year.

Hopefully I will have more time now, to hang around the old place.

Take care
