track info from YADB for burned CDs
« on: December 02, 2003, 12:20:10 pm »

When ripping a burned CD, I have been having difficulty finding track info from YADB.  It never seems to recognize ANY burned CDs.  Is there a way to search an album list and specify which CD it is?  Because these aren't obscure albums or anything, I'm sure they are in the database, I just can't find a way to convince YADB which ones they are.

thanks,

Why don't you just add the track names when you burn the CD. Then MC does not use YADB at all.

Maybe I don't understand your question.  ?

These burned CDs are copied from store bought CDs (backups, if you will).

I also experience problems with YADB, but it does recognise CD's. Even if it takes a while.

I think that the copy you have made is not a complete copy. The identification of the original CD is probably not on your copy.

Usually a burned CD will not have the exact same track sector start positions and sector lengths of the original CD, especially if you ripped the tracks to mp3 or another lossy format. That's why you're not getting hits at YADB. If you burned the CD with "cd-text" checked, you should still get the track info though, without using YADB. Even if you didn't check "cd-text", if you burned the disk with MC, MC will "remember" the disk information when subsequently ripping the CD.

John,

Hi - A good feature to add would be the facility to search or reference YADB - do you agree?

Graham

PS - Not sure how easy or difficult it would be to implement though!

I would love to see a search features (so you could manually "pick" a CD to identify).

But on the other note... it's possibly like some have suggested, that the CD burn wasn't complete.  However, when I use a client program that utilized CDDB, it finds the track info for the burned CD almost 100% of the time.  That is the source of my frustration.

thanks,

Yes, it's a good idea for a new feature. I'll put it on the "wishlist". Feel free to bring the topic up again at a later date.
