Playback interrupted by CD reads

While playing MP3's, if i try to copy files from the CD drive to the hard drive at the same time the music actually slows down and starts making crackling and shrieking noises, until eventually the music stops completely and MC it won't play anything else until the PC is re-booted.  However if try to copy the same files from the CD and play the same music using WMP everythings fine.  Anyone come across this before?

It's OK i've managed to fix it.  It was the Primary IDE channel working in PIO mode, i changed it back to DMA and all is OK now.  I don't know why it changed itself from DMA to PIO ??

It usually indicates read errors on your drive.  If Windows detects a certain number of errors (I think it's 6), it automatically switches from DMA to PIO mode.  It's incredibly irritating.

Thanks, i'll keep on eye on that.  I saw another post for a fix for this but i hadn't realised that this was the problem i was suffering from.
