Keeping customized fields
« on: December 07, 2003, 07:45:53 am »

The one thing that i require from either Version 9.1 or 10, is a way to more easily customize media library.

For instance, every time i install a new build, i get the default fields and not the ones i customized.

Is there any way of keeping the fields that i have customized, or do i need to delete, and then add the new fields that i want.

It's a complete pain having to do this every time a new build come out.

Thanks

Sort of like some software has an option to 'Save Settings' or 'Export Personal Settings' so that they can be re-imported again later.  I agree that this would be a nice addition, especially if you can opt to save toolbar customizations, playlists, view schemes, zones, etc.

I have never lost any of my custom field data when I install anew build...do you uninstall the old build first???  This isn't actually necessary and is probably deleting your library files which is why you lose your custom data.  Install a build over the top of the old build and make sure all tags are stored in the files themselves and you hould have no problems.

How do you make custom fields, anyway?  Do you mean creating a field called, say, "instrument" and being able to display it in media center an also save it in the tag?

Adam,
I understand you on the install and do not have a problem there, but I would like to transfer view schemes, toolbar settings, playlists, etc to my other machine or my other library.

View schemes and playlists are now included in the library backup.  What I'd like to be able to save and re-import is all the stuff under Tools>Options.
