MC changing date/timestamp on files?
« on: December 08, 2003, 10:06:41 pm »

Under what conditions will MC9 change date/timestamp on files?  Obviously if I edit a tag, that will change it.  How about if MC just plays or otherwise accesses a file?  I ask because I use a folder synchronize utility to duplicate my music folder on another networked PC for backup purposes.  This weekend after I had loaded a bunch of stuff onto my Zen, I ran the synch because I had also edited some tags, and found that a LOT of files that I didn't think I had done anything with required synching.

Just curious . . . for now.

I have seen something like this too! I thought I was going crazy!

I use "robocopy" to back up my music folder across the network. It is set to only copy files that have changed (archive bit set or later timestamp), but sometimes, after just playing some files, not changing a tag at all, robocopy backs up the file. My conclusion is that MC is writing some tag when the file is played or something.

This only started happening recently, though.

Any comment on this from the MC folks?
