OT - Poll - How much in music downloads & CDs?
« on: December 10, 2003, 09:46:32 am »

Since we are all users of Media Center and almost 100% use it at least for music management, I wonder what is the average monthly spending in purchasing new music. This would include subscription services, digital downloads, CDs in stores or thru the internet, etc. This would NOT include concerts, live music, etc.

Actually, I'm curious to know how does the average spending compare with the price of a license of Media Center.

Thanks for your time.

I don't download music... Legally - It's not worth the amount not to have the CD. ---- Illegally, It's not worth the hassells.. (crappy sound, Viruses, Inconplete songs.. Takes to long)

I do not usually buy new cd's... It's just VERY expensive.. Ie, Metallica S&M in Canada 40$..
I usually but my music from 2nd hand cd stores.. The stores around me don't take any that are not in MINT shape. I got that same Metallica CD for 20$.. Half price..

If I see a deal, I buy it new... Or if I can't get it used.

Download music

I did a lot--Emusic and russians
Emusic for 2 or 3 years
Few hundreds $ spent on the other-one-- but much calmer now, i got almost anything i wanted
.

I still buy a lot of cds and vinyl.
Second hand
new but at bargain price [ because they cannot sell the cd]
and full price.

Last week ,i bought ;
-4 or 5 new cds
-around 6 or 7 at  bargain price
-3 second hand.
-2 lps new and 3 second hand

I would say this was an average week.

Must spend around $500 on music- including concerts and magazines- every month.
At 90% the new cds are from indee labels , very few from big labels

I still download but not 'peer-to-peer' (i.e. KaZaa/Grokster/etc).  Too much grief!
I found several sites for concert archives; free, legal, AND lossless! No hassles, no copyright problems, some really good music.

In addition I purchase probably about 2 or 3 CD's a month depending on budgeting. I also see usually at least 6 concerts a year as well (although most of these are when I volunteer as an Usher but hey it's all good.    :D

I cannot get free concerts like you.

There is not such a thing as a Husher to the shows i go.

For a start ,there is no seat...

I do get an hight chair at the bar in all the places.
Not because i'am THAT old , but because since an accident ,i cannot stand up for long time.

You cannot miss me , i'am the only one with a seat in all the place

I wouldn't pay to download music - not at current market prices.

I don't download music free or paid from web sites.

I use usenet/newsgroups a lot.
