Album art
« on: December 15, 2003, 10:41:28 pm »

For some funky reason, I never get accurate album art displayed when I mouse over my library tracks.  Seemingly random art is shown.  This was a problem with versions 9.x, and also with the newest beta (10.16).  Believe it or not, it's also the same with Windows Media Player!

This is particularly weird because I just ripped a CD I own, and in the directory where the files reside, the album art files are accurate... but the mouseovers in the MC10 library are NOT.

I know this isn't really a life-or-death issue, but does anyone have any idea what's going on, other than the presence of evil and playful gremlins on my system?

A couple followup notes (and dang, I should have picked a more general title -- oh well!)

1) Where is album art retrieved from?  And what determines whether it's available or not, and in what formats? (I've seen sometimes I get small and large jpegs, sometimes just small, sometimes none, even when the CD is recognized)

2) What's the most efficient way for me to get album art downloaded and associated with an album when none is automatically retrieved?

I think you can change the title.

i used launch.yahoo.com to update my album art.

you can search by artist... then select discography.  it displays a list of all the albums by an artist.  i also get the year information at this point.

click on the album and the next window has the artwork.  right click that and copy.  select all the tracks you want to update and then paste image from clipboard.

it works perfecrtly.  i used this feature to update more than 2500 tracks.

Album art is also available from Walmart.com(500x500) and Amazon.com. You do have to DL manually.

I appreciate the heads-up on art availability and cool plugins, but my original and worse problem still remains:  Even when MC finds and downloads the correct art, the wrong art is still shown upon mouseover and otherwise within the program.

Any suggestions for how this can be fixed?

I think that's a thumbnail issue. Try deleting the thumbnails, then MC should rebuild them and link them correctly.

Delete the contents of *MC install dir*\Data\Thumbnails.
