Intensity
« on: December 17, 2003, 07:29:00 am »

I realize that nothing can replace the human ear, but I'm a bit baffled by the choices MC makes with regards to intensity in its audio analysis.

I'm now listening to my intensity=1 playlist, which includes such quiet (ha!) numbers as:
- A Spin Round Moscow (complete with frenetic pace and loud timpanis!)
- Bumps in the Baseline (by The Bobs)
- Festive Overture (Shostakovich, complete with crashing symbols and trumpets)

and on my intensity=5 playlist, there's the uber-mellow "What Child is This?"!?!

How does MC measure intensity?  And can it possibly be improved?

Matt has said in the past that all of the 'mood' type settings are merely guess work based on algorithms...bpm and intensity are always gonna be guesswork and will never compare to what you hear.  i think INtnesity is based on the difference between the quite and loud parts of a track or something like that...Matt will correct me.  This accounts for some tracks appearing under what we consider the wrong section...Mathematics will never be able to fully analyse music as music is not mathematical...
