The end of stuttering?
« on: December 21, 2003, 02:39:01 am »

It has been a frequent topic for debate but I was unable to find a solution that works:

When I fast forward or jump to the next song in a playlist, I often get a very annoying stuttering sound. I defragemented the drive but that didn't help. I am running MC 9.1 on a Via C3 866 MHz system with 5400 maxtor disks.

This has never happended when using Winamp or MusicMatch and I am sure it can be fixed with such a great program as MC, I just wonder how?

Thanks for all suggestions! ? :'(

Try updating (or backdating) your sound card drivers.

Try a google search for similar problems.

Via chipsets can be a problem.

Change ASIO vs Wav out on playback options in MC.

I just checked and it doesn't happen when I change it to wav out. I am using the latest terratec 6fire drivers (don't have any old ones). Didn't find anything on google relating to that card/stutter/asio.

It sounds like you need to adjust the More Skip Resistant / More Responsive slider...click on the Settings button next to the Output mode drop box and experiment. DirectSound has been working great at my two locales.

I've Recently Discoverd some songs that 'skip' during play back. They're all VBR, and when they're skipping the file info at the top dips down to 98 bit rate or so.

I have know such playing these files in Winamp. I'v just tried adjusting the above mentioned slider. It seems to have had no impact.

Rock on MC!

Once in a while, but it's only been when I'm playing APE files and my CPU is also busy doing other things.

Actually, it's never been when changing tracks. It only sometimes happens when I stop playback. And very very rarely it's happened just in the middle of a song for like a half a second.

I chalk it up to an overworked CPU. Due to running SETI@Home in the background, my CPU is always pegged.
