Few (possible bugs?) very annoying things
« on: February 13, 2004, 06:00:47 pm »

How do all. I just installed a trial version on one of my boxes, and I've run accross some things I don't recall having a problem with before..one of them, yes, but I don't recall how to solve the problem again.

First problem is that when MC is running, and I insert a music CD, I get an error saying "can not create plugin". This also happens if there's already a CD in the drive, and I remove it. This does not happen just by opening and closing the CD door when there's nothing in it. And I have no idea of what plug in it's trying to create.

I've not tried to install any plugins aside from the MP3 encoder...but that was automatically done (LAME) by MC when prompted..  After I get the message, I can either click OK or cancel, which is supposed to debug ...but either way, MC just crashes. And this is very annoying.

Next, is some things associated with ripping a CD. For one, when I use the preset file naming schemes, the order is correct, but when I select [track #] I get this :

01packt like sardines
02pyramid song
It should be:
01)
02)
But it's not..what's up with that ?

Next issue. Why is it that when I select start from the ripping GUI, it automatically encodes every file directly after each song is ripped, even if I de-select the "rip and encode simultaniously" box ?  I don't understand the point of having that particular option if it doesn't do anything..The only way I know how to batch encode, is to rip to .wav or .ape, and then convert those files.

But wait, there's more. Why is it that when you hit the rip button, you have to first look for the directory where the CD is ? Why isn't it automatically detected ? This seems like an aweful waste of time and annoying...or am I missing something ? I hope it's the latter.

There was something else, but I'm a bit flustered, so I'll have to post later.

Anyway, I know I asked a lot, but these things are really preventing me from enjoying MC on the whole....For all of those last comments, it would seem I'd have an easier time just ripping with EAC and encoding with Razor lame...I'd rather not if I don't have to, but....

Thanks a bunch.

I remember now...

After using the file conversion feature, and the files are done, why is it that MC goes to some random library directory, instead of showing you the recently encoded (converted) files ?  Is there a setting I'm not aware of ?

I definetely wouldn't even use the conversion option if I could just have MC encode all my rips after the whole disc was done. As it is though, another reason I don't like it when MC rips and encodes is because the disc is still spinning while the encoding is going on..sort of a waste.

Thanks again..

Can you copy and paste your system info from MC Help?

Build 317 may fix one of your problems.  It's in one of the first threads here.

Thanks Jim. I downloaded the latest build.  The "can not create plug in" bug is gone...

I haven't gotten to checking the rest of it yet though, but I would really appreciate it if you could answer a couple of simple questions for me..

I was under the assumption (yes..I know the assume rule :) )  that the rip and encode simultaniously selection meant that after the rip was done, encoding would begin. And that with it unchecked, all of the selected tracks would be ripped first, and when done the .wav's or .ape files would then go through a batch process.

But after having just checked, and doing it both ways (with R&E simultaniously), checked and unchecked...it winds up being done exactly the same way. I don't get that at all. For a moment, I thought that if I checked the box, the file would be encoded directly rather than waiting for the rip to be done, but this is not the case.

Is this a known issue ? Because it sort of makes the option useless, and the feature redundant. Otherwise, I do see some other fixes from before such as: After the rip is done, MC takes me to the .dir where the files are in order to do a conversion. Cool.

I also noticed that "I" made a mistake with the file naming, where I was getting the track number right next to the title, I didn't insert a space and a hyphen. However, I'm wondering if it's possible to have a file like this:

01) Song  (instead of)  01 - song

Not a biggie though. I guess everything else is moving along then.

Now, I have a question totally different in nature. The one thing I really miss about using QCD player, is that I had a totally configurable control panel that sat in my system tray. I could raise or lower the volume, change tracks, search the playlist and other stuff, with very tiny icons (simple plain black audio icons).

Is there a plug in for MC that does this ? I hate having to max the screen every time I want to do something as simple as look for a song, or change the volume, especially when I've got a ton of other apps open, and I have to dig for MC.

That's it for now. Thanks for your help..
